IT 'charm offensive'
24/09/2007(17:10)

IT professionals could soon be challenging their workplace stereotypes after undertaking a new course being offered by the government, it has been reported.

A government funded initiative, e-skills, has collaborated with UK universities and Micro Focus to introduce a new IT course intended to help improve the business skills of technology professionals, the Times reports.

Commenting on the changes in the industry, Margaret Sambell from e-skills remarks that employers are experiencing problems with recruiting IT staff with interpersonal skills or business skills.

"The focus of IT systems now is on business change and how technology can be used to help companies address new markets and attract new clients," she states to the publication.

Those hoping to make it in the IT industry need to understand how to deal with customers and have business market awareness, Ms Sambell adds.

Bob Champion, who is helping to pioneer the course, claims this new aspect of IT will encourage more females to enter the industry.

Last week, Knowledge Solutions suggested that poor levels of IT training in contact centres were resulting in firms losing billions of pounds.
