'High demand' for skilled workers in London
04/08/2008(15:54)

There is still a high demand for construction and skilled workers in London, according to the Recruitment and Employment Confederation.

Its director of external relations, Tom Hadley, has said that a slow down in the housing market has had "little effect" on the "massive demand" for specific trade workers in the capital.

He explained that through speaking to its members, the confederation found that there was still a "fair amount" of work at many construction projects.

Mr Hadley added: "I think what we are seeing is a push rather than pull factor where people are thinking this is a difficult time for the labour market and perhaps want to start looking at some of these jobs where there are opportunities that are actually very well paid."

Sky News recently reported that more than 1,000 people per week were "seeking out" a career in plumbing as many people see it as the best bet for a secure career.
