HR executives need support of top bosses
01/05/2008(17:56)

Human resources (HR) executives have been urged to bridge the gap between them and the chief executives of their organisations, to improve them.

Greg Dyke has called on the sector to create a closer relationship with their bosses in order to create change in the companies, reports Personnel Today.

He told the industry that they lacked credibility to inspire change alone and needed the support of their organisations' top bosses.

"If your chief executive is not prepared to stand up and lead then you in HR don't stand much chance of leading meaningful change," Mr Dyke told the magazine.

He said that working from his experiences at the BBC, where he worked closely with the HR director on a change programme, support was needed from above.

Mr Dyke added that in the public sector he perceived that change occurred despite the management, rather than with the help of it.

It was recently revealed that some public sector HR workers received salaries of £100,000 or more.
