'Psychometric tests used more for recruitment'

Employers are increasingly using psychometric tests as part of recruitment processes to find the most suitable candidates, an expert has claimed.
According to Rachel Middleton, manager of the British Psychological Society's Psychological Testing Centre, more recruiters are using the tests as they may not be able to determine the best applicants through traditional interviewing methods.
"There's no guarantee that if you just select through normal procedures of the interview process you're necessarily going to have the right candidate for the job," she said.
A range of psychometric tests are available for employers to choose from, including literacy and numeracy exams as well as some tailored for graduate assessment, the expert added.
In addition, job applicants may also face personality and aptitude test, Ms Middleton continued.
Her comments follow calls by the Institute for Public Policy Research that applicants for teaching training courses should undergo psychometric tests.
