British Gas creates 1,000 new jobs

British Gas has announced the creation of around 1,000 new UK jobs, according to a source.
The firm will reach these figures by trebling its intake of apprentice engineers, reports Onrec.com.
Chris Weston, managing director for British Gas Services, claims the recruitment drive will benefit the company.
He told Personnel Today: "Research has shown our apprentices to be 25 per cent more efficient and customer-focused than employees trained elsewhere."
Mr Weston added the scheme will help "drive the company forward" and is a positive way of finding "enthusiastic recruits".
Around £40 million will be invested in five of the firm's British-based training centres, with trainees undertaking an 18-month placement before taking up their job.
The recruitment will address a shortfall of around 20,000 workers currently in the industry, according to the source.
It was also today announced a proposal from Westinghouse could create new engineering jobs and inject £30 billion into the UK economy.
