New IT jobs are being created by opportunities in the finance sector, as demand for skilled IT services in finance continues to grow.
Figures reveal that the dominance of the financial services sector in London is leading to the generation of more than a third of all IT jobs. According to statistics published by ReThink Recruitment, London houses 39 per cent of all technology jobs in the UK.
When combined, London and the south-east are responsible for 62 per cent of all IT jobs despite the fact that the region holds little more than a quarter of the UK population.
Heavy use of IT in finance has been identified as the key driving factor in these trends, London being the financial hub of the UK.
"The financial services industry has ramped up its demand for IT skills over the past 12 months in areas such as investment banking and hedge funds, but these have often been front or middle office roles in London," commented ReThink recruitment director Michael Bennett, according to Computing.
A recent poll from the Department of Trade and Industry highlighted IT workers as having the lowest job satisfaction across over 80 different occupations.
