Rise seen in IT support jobs
10/07/2008(16:00)

A new report has found that the number of IT support jobs in the UK has risen over the last two years.

Research from recruitment firm ReThinkRecruitment showed that demand for IT support jobs rose by 20 per cent in the time period, with the jobs taking up 30 per cent of total positions advertised in the sector, reports Computer Weekly.

According to ReThink, the UK is now a "more attractive" venue for IT support centres due to rising wages in India.

Jon Butterfield, managing director of ReThink, told the website the UK is "becoming a viable location again".

"Projects require support teams, and it's not always appropriate or advantageous to base these staff offshore," he added.

A recent survey by Learndirect Business found that 60 per cent of workers thought that additional skills they may have, such as IT, writing or salesmanship, were "ignored" by employers.
