New jobs for electronics company
22/11/2007(16:24)

Celestica's expansion into making mobile phones and MP3 players will bring 120 new jobs at its operational facility in Galway, Ireland, it has emerged.

The move by the Canadian electronics company will provide employment opportunities for academics.

Third-level graduates in science and engineering disciplines are expected to fill the majority of the positions made available by the company's consumer electronics investment.

Staff will help develop fuel cell power packs for use in the electronic devices, such as iPods and mobile phones.

Commenting on the investment on a visit to Galway, enterprise minister Michael Martin said to Ireland.com: "The level of automation in this project is exceptional and signals a very positive direction in Irish-based manufacturing towards state-of-the-art automation which requires a skilled workforce to operate and maintain."

Some 2,000 jobs are expected to be created over the next three years through the expansion of the computer software industry in Tayside, Scotland, the BBC reported yesterday.
