About the unit Adult Patients needing dialysis. Dialysis is performed on patients with Acute Kidney Injury. Patients who have or have had an acute illness requiring ICU care can need dialysis support while their kidneys recover from a critical illness. The acute intensive care conditions are most commonly: trauma with shock, cardiothoracic surgeries (including transplants), heart failure with fluid overload, liver failure, and sepsis or sepsis-like conditions (COVID).
