Atlanta, Georgia - USD Full Time Posted: Monday, 19 June 2017, an Amazon company, creates powerful, customer-focused search and advertising solutions and technologies. Our Visual Search team creates solutions aimed at helping customers search and discover the world around them via a camera-phone view. We use advanced technologies to leverage our vast catalog of images in ways that dramatically improve the experience of Amazon customers. We tackle complex problems in computer vision, image recognition, deep learning, and large-scale distributed systems.

We are looking for an engineer for our Atlanta office with a passion for developing and delivering cutting edge computer vision technologies. We are focused on creatively working with advanced technologies to leverage our huge catalog of images in ways that will dramatically improve our customer's experience. You will be designing, developing, implementing, testing and documenting large-scale distributed visual search applications, tools, systems and services. You will work with others in gathering and analyzing business and functional requirements; and you will translate those requirements into technical specifications and tangible deliverables.

In this role you will:

. Design, develop and support a mission-critical search platform.

. Focus on scalability, latency, performance robustness, and cost trade-offs in a highly distributed environment running large-scale map-reduce jobs.

. Build information retrieval systems and tune them for speed and accuracy.

. Evaluate and tune performance of the systems on real world data.

. Implement computer vision algorithms using Amazon's distributed compute infrastructure.

. Take a project from scoping of the requirements to actually launching it in production.

Basic Qualifications:

. MSc in Computer Science or related field.

. At least 4 years of experience working in related domain.

. At least 2 years of experience with Hadoop, Spark, S3, or HDFS.

. At least 2 years of experience with AWS services like Redshift, EMR, S3, EC2, Kineses, SNS.

. At least 3 years of experience in C/C++, Java, Python, or Scala

Preferred Qualifications:

. Practical knowledge of distributed systems, fault tolerance, scalability. Experience with information retrieval packages like Lucene, Solr, ElasticSearch etc.

. Ability to slice, dice and wrangle enormous amounts of data very efficiently using SQL

. Familiarity with Computer Vision/Machine Learning algorithms.

. Familiarity with software engineering processes.
