Position Overview/Summary:
Based out of Santa Ana, this position investigates and manages liability cases in civil litigation from the inception of the lawsuit until conclusion through dismissal, settlement or trial. Works with adjuster and clients to resolve claims as expeditiously and efficiently as possible.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
- Handles a caseload involving moderate to high exposures pending throughout the State of California, with primary emphasis in Southern California.
- Exposures principally involve general liability, premises liability, products liability and to a lesser extent, auto liability claims.
- Experience with and/or the ability to handle or assist with a smaller subset of workers' compensation defense casework is also desirable.
- Independently conducts trials, pre-trials, mediations, arbitrations or any other legal activity required to resolve cases.
- Advises claim professionals on the evaluations of legal files.
- Provides legal advice to clients and other claim professionals as needed.
- Negotiates settlements as directed.
- Attends round tables.
Position Requirements
- Must be licensed to practice law in the State of California; Federal bar membership is highly desirable.
- Must have a minimum of 8 years experience in general liability matters, including first-chair jury trial experience.
- Must demonstrate ability to analyze issues, pro-actively develop effective strategies on pending cases, communicate regularly with claims professionals, document communication and resolve cases as efficiently and effectively as possible.
- Must have solid experience in preparing answers, handling appearances, motion practice, valuation of claims, settlement and trials.
- Background and knowledge in Workers Compensation law and procedure as well as solid knowledge of and practical experience with the Medicare Secondary Payer Act as relevant to the practice is also desired.
- Must be willing to work independently with minimal direction, handle claims efficiently, and we willing to travel as necessary.
