Job Overview
Nalco, an Ecolab Company, has an immediate need for a Production Superintendent in our Water Process Services group located in Chicago, IL. The Production Superintendent is responsible for the direction and supervision of the production operation of the Clearing plant which will include ensuring the safe, timely and efficient manufacture of a variety of chemical products. Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for the direction and supervision of the production operation of the Clearing plant.
- Supports Nalco's commitment to the guiding principles of Responsible Care, (and its six Codes of Management Practice), to continually improve Nalco's health, safety and environmental performance, and company efforts to respond to public concerns relating to design, development, manufacture, storage, marketing, distribution, use and ultimate safe disposal of chemical products.
- Supports and is committed to the Quality Improvement Process. Plans strategies to ensure error-free work by "doing it right the first time" and conveys this attitude in the daily performance of various duties.
- Creates and maintains records and documentation to comply with government, corporate, and group needs. For example, develops working knowledge of PSM (OSHA) and RMP (EPA) standards to assist plant with applicable compliance.
- Identifies and implements opportunities for cost reduction.
- Schedules manpower, production and shipping priorities.
- Maximizes product yields and effectively utilizes manpower and equipment on the various shifts.
- Develops and implements waste minimization programs.
- Provides information on manufacturing progress and supervises the coordination of raw material requirements and inventory levels to maintain efficient and cost effective levels.
- Responsible for the unloading and loading of bulk shipments of raw materials and finished products.
- Ensures that outgoing products are tested and shipped in drums or bulk according to specifications and regulations.
- Promotes the quality process and implements controls which lead to capable processes.
- Maintains a current knowledge of production methods and originates new methods of equipment design to improve production.
- Participates in programs for pollution control and energy conservation.
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment.
- Ensures that equipment is maintained in good operating condition and that employees are trained in proper safety procedures.
- Reviews recommendations concerning equipment up grading, replacement or additions.
- Assists in the development of new designs and processes and coordinates the installation of new equipment and implementation of new processes.
- Assists in implementing plant compliance with federal, state, and local health, safety, and environmental policies.
- At assigned locations, directs and implements effective programs for waste minimization, recycling, pollution control, environmental compliance, energy conservation, and public safety.
- Prepares and administers annual department budget.
- Monitors expenses throughout the year to ensure costs are within amounts budgeted.
- Recommends and justifies capital equipment to Plant Manager.
- Selects, trains, develops and motivates a supporting staff in accordance with company policy.
- Recommends/approves performance appraisals, salary adjustments, staff additions and terminations.
- May represent Nalco at various community, professional, and business group meetings.
- Conducts plant tours as required.
- Develops a working knowledge of and a relationship with the community.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
- 5+ years of related chemical production experience
- 2-5 years of management experience
- Must be knowledgeable/experienced with plant safety procedures/regulations
- Ability to effectively communicate with all stakeholders (internal and external)
Preferred Qualifications
- The ability to direct, train and motivate a staff
- Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma knowledge/experience
- SAP experience
- PSM experience
