Fit Engineering Lead

Department: Apparel Design and Development

General Purpose:

This position's primary responsibility is to direct, and participate in all aspects of global fit development and prototype creation for Pearl Izumi.

The Fit Engineering lead supports the product creation process by leading the pattern and prototyping teams in establishing and maintaining global fit standards, and taking 2d or 3d designs and creating patterns and garments that combine the original design intent with construction, fit standards and functional requirements. This position will also lead Pearl Izumi in establishing and managing global fit, and providing patterning support and guidance to the materials, design, product line management and development teams to ensure consistency of fit.

Job Qualifications:

. Relevant undergraduate degree or equivalent industry training/certification in flat pattern work, garment design and/or construction, and fitting expertise required.

. 5+ years of CAD pattern experience, Gerber Accumark V10 pattern software is preferred.

. Working understanding of 3 D pattern software preferred.

. Patternmaking experience in technical sports apparel industry preferred.

. Knowledgeable in special characteristics of technical fabrics, heavily focused on performance knits.

. Expert level knowledge of body sizing and shaping globally.

. Complete understanding of patterning and grading.

. Mastery of the development process with a focus on fit.

. Experience recruiting, measuring and managing part-time fit models.

. Personal interest and involvement in cycling, running, and fitness is a plus.

. Must be hands-on, organized, team oriented, pro-active in problem solving, strong communication skills, and must have a strong technical background.

. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.

. Ability to look at a computer screen for extended periods of time.

. Advanced skills in Microsoft Office

. Ability to maintain a composed and professional demeanor within a flexible and (at times noisy) work environment.

. Must be able to travel internationally utilizing various transportation methods

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

. Collaborates with merchandising, design, materials, pattern and development to establish and maintain global fit standards.

. Creates tools and standards and protocols with the development team to be used during fittings to run efficient fit sessions.

. Creates CAD patterns for all in-house developed Pearl Izumi apparel products based on 2D design packages. Includes interpreting design intent, understanding materials properties and creation of sample patterns for prototyping or production use ensuring that construction methods and documentation are consistent with Pearl Izumi standards.

. Work with Design, Materials and Development Team from design briefs through completed garment to correctly construct and adjust all apparel to meet fit and functional requirements.

. Directs and assists other internal or external Suppliers, Patternmakers & Prototype Supervisor on organization of all patterns, samples and overall archival process and clear communication amongst the team.

. Responsible for interpreting, recording and documenting needed input from fit sessions into correctly modified patterns and for making recommendations to the team from a technical perspective on all in-line items.

. Defines and maintains all grade rules issued by development teams to factories.

. Grades patterns, maintains and documents grade on modified production patterns.

. Creates a graded, nest of patterns to design for graphic application.

. Defines and maintains fit blocks and create new & updated ones as required for each category: Cycle and Essentials.

. Defines and maintains a consistent global fit within styles with same fit designation (ie form fit, semi form fit, etc.).

. Oversees fit model selection, scheduling, and measurements while ensuring consistent standards.

. Leads collaborative communication with Pearl Izumi production factories as needed to discuss grading, sizing, and pattern needs. Including consistent patternmaking and adherence to company fit specifications (both domestic and international production).

. Create markers to confirm production yields with factories.

. Manage and maintains accuracy of all fit information in pattern and PLM systems.

. Creates product fit and constructions that are innovative, unique and authentic.

. Key role in creating and implementing new innovations with in-house prototyping team.

. Regular information exchange with Wear Testing and Quality groups.

. Always scanning our industry and others for technology, innovations, culture and unique ways of building product and understand product positioning in their category.

. Must meet all applicable Pearl Izumi product calendar deadlines.

. Must be self-motivated and be able to work with little supervision.

. Participate in input sessions with athletes and consumers.

. International travel to vendors to keep fit integrity and continue product fit improvement.
