The State of New Hampshire, Department of Revenue Administration, has a full time vacancy for Tax Examiner I.

SUMMARY: Examine incoming taxpayer returns and other tax documents to ensure the presence of all supporting documents and information necessary for accurate processing.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Sort tax returns and other tax documents and remittance according to established procedures to ensure correct processing and posting of tax payments. Sort and extract contents and prepare documents for further processing using standard and specialized office equipment. Review and distribute interdivisional transmittals of documents, checks, and correspondence.

Coordinate and maintain the Department's document retention, storage and retrieval systems within the file room. Files tax documents verifying daily transmittal records for received documents. Maintain files currently stored in the file room filling all department document pull/re-file requests. Maintain tax document inventory determining which documents are eligible for data destruction. Accompany documents to vendor off site destruction as needed.

Review and distribute interdivisional transmittals of documents, checks, and correspondence in order to ensure proper handling.

Prepare, review, mail and archive routine correspondence using word templates, in order to return documents to the sender.

Perform data validation of tax documents in all "No Money" queues in the Image Viewing System.

Act as back-up to mail messenger clerk, picking up mail from post office and administrative services to ensure receipt of mail, daily.

Act as back-up to retrieve requests for forms from the public via telephone and email. Address envelope and mail requested forms through the postal service, or via email.

Cross-train to assist other units of Division to meet its mission of providing efficient tax and revenue processing.

Maintain strict adherence to the departmental laws and regulations pertaining to confidentiality of all tax information obtained from records, files, tax returns, and departmental investigations.

Uphold the Department's core values of respect and teamwork.

Demonstrate behavior consistent with the Department's Code of Respect in the Workplace.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: High school diploma or high school equivalency. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

EXPERIENCE: One year clerical experience involving some combination of accounting, auditing or computer work.

License/Certification: None required.

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Knowledge of examining documents and forms for completeness. Skill in entering data into computer systems. Ability to perform mathematical computations relating to tax forms. Ability to comprehend and follow written or verbal instructions. Ability to apply department rules and regulations to individual situations. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with associates and members of the public. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority.
