*This is a home based position covering part of the North East and Southern US territories. Preferred location is the Charlotte, NC area. Will consider other areas close to an airport.

Purpose of the Job -
The Water Solutions Sales Representative will play an integral role in helping grow the Water Solutions business, driving revenue, profits, and adding value to our customers. The successful candidate will assist in the management of existing customers while growing the customer base in a defined geographic territory. This position will support the Regional Territory Manager in gaining a comprehensive understanding of the territory in terms of customers, competitors, industries and trends as they relate to the Water Solutions product portfolio. The individual will be responsible sales related activities, from lead generation through close in the North East and Southern US. The Sales Representative will develop and implement an agreed upon Sales Plan and work within the sales and support teams (ie Marketing, Technical Sales, Channel Management) to achieve customer satisfaction, revenue generation, and account goals in line with short and long term business targets, vision and values. The ideal candidate will have a strong market and customer focus and be able to translate this into business growth.

Principal Responsibilities -
- Develop annual business plan in conjunction with Regional Territory Manager to meet or exceed targets and expectations
- Assist Regional Sales in hunting efforts to grow future business in the Water Treatment segment
- Identify and contact prospective customers, discuss their needs, explain how these needs can be met by specific products, and convert to sales
- Develop an understanding of products and applications in the portfolio
- Maintain accounts and help develop new business opportunities at existing accounts
- Understand and identify influencers and decision-makers, utilizing resources (Regional Sales, Channel Partner Manager, Marketing, Technical Sales) to establish relationships at all levels to maximize sales potential
- Collect customer demand data and translate into accurate forecasts
- Develop a database of qualified leads through referrals, telephone canvassing/cold calling, face-to-face meetings, email, and networking
- Understand customer specific pricing as well as regional pricing trends and communicate back to Marketing
- Recommend pricing to Regional Sales and Marketing and communicate/negotiate upon approval
- Create account specific strategic plans in coordination with Regional Sales Representative and implement plan to drive business growth
- Adhere to customer segmentation and business rules
- Assist in evaluation of customer complexity and make recommendations for transferring customers to identified distributors
- Help increase market intelligence by providing information around industries, competitors and customers to Marketing
- Ensure customers are adhering to payment terms and work with Credit and Customer Care to resolve payment or invoicing issues
- Communicate regularly with customers via conference calls, email and in-person meetings in order to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction and pursue business growth. Work with Customer Service, Operations and Product Management to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Work with Back Office to complete necessary paperwork to setup new customers, pricing, etc. and ensure smooth order flow process
- Attend required training and sales meetings

Qualifications
- BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent


Knowledge and Experience -
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, Finance, Chemistry, or related field
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in sales, marketing, procurement or technical service
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, influencing, and networking skills for use in internal and external environments
- Excellent communication, reporting, and presentation skills
- Solid prospecting and networking skills
- Possess strong skills relative to project coordination, time management, multi-tasking, and delivering on commitments
- Strong business ethics and acumen
- Motivated, driven, energetic and positive self-starter who works very efficiently and is flexible to changing priorities/needs
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with other departments
- Must be willing and able to travel up to 80% of time

Desired:
- 5 + years sales experience, preferably in the chemicals industry
- Experience in a commodity market, price sensitive business
- Proven ability to identify prospective customers, make appropriate chemical recommendations, and close new business
