The Worldwide Anti-Piracy Team within the Legal & Corporate Affairs Department ( LCA ) has approximately 55 employees, representing more than 20 nationalities and working in more than 25 locations around the world. LCA's Worldwide and Latam Anti-Piracy Team members include attorneys, government affairs professionals, investigators, intelligence analysts, forensic specialists, paralegals, and administrators.

The mission of the Worldwide Anti-Piracy Team is to drive the Latin America (LATAM)-wide strategy as well as specific LATAM programs, to serve as a central resource for the LCA regional teams and for business clients, to collect and centralize metrics and data, including budget, and to serve as liaison with the Redmond LCA relevant contacts.

The new investigator will thus be a member of a group composed of an LCA Senior Attorney, corporate attorneys, and Anti- Piracy managers in the business side, and other support personnel located in subsidiary offices throughout the region.

As a member of Microsoft's Regional Headquarters for LATAM this position will require an extremely close working relationship with the business teams throughout the region. He or she will have to be very attentive to the business teams' needs and work to address local, regional, and international priorities.

The Investigator will have the following responsibilities:

Tracking, investigating and dismantling counterfeiting operations in LATAM; developing intelligence sources capable of providing actionable information to drive these investigations.
Running other major investigations and enforcement actions against entities infringing Microsoft's intellectual property rights in his/her geography, in particular focusing on channel (Hard-disk loading) and end-user enforcement in close cooperation with the business teams.
Participate in investigations and assisting prosecutions against spammers and the writers and distributors of computer viruses and worms located in LATAM
Provide testimony in support of prosecutions as appropriate. Develop and maintain liaison with higher-level law enforcement department heads and management personnel LATAM.
Developing and expanding installed base piracy investigation capabilities
Oversee and manage, when appropriate, the relevant outside vendors in the geography responsible for conventional and financial investigations (for IPR cases) as well as technical investigations (for Digital Crimes and Malicious Code cases)
Actively assisting in all other types of investigations important for Microsoft
Working with various business teams at Microsoft Regional Headquarters and Subsidiary offices, to learn the lessons from enforcement/investigations and implement appropriate changes in products and business practices

Profile:

Five plus years of professional experience as a law enforcement officer or senior investigator at a global or regional investigations firm.
Two plus years experience working in Latin America or with Latin American law enforcement agencies.
Education: higher education with legal component (law enforcement academy, law school)
Experience in criminal law, financial fraud investigations, IPR, Internet-related legal crimes
Experience in handling criminal & civil investigations & litigation matters, and in working with Law Enforcement, Customs, and investigators
Business-oriented, with excellent communication skills, comfortable working as part of a team, and eager to interact with diverse group of people spanning range of business teams and executives, as well as various vendors
Languages (written and spoken): English required, Spanish necessary and Portuguese an asset.
