Summary
Business Insurance Business Intelligence has an exciting opportunity for a Business Analyst (Manager of Management Information) to join the Strategic Initiatives organization. In this position you will be part of a group of Business Analysts responsible for the business requirements, data requirements, business testing and business implementation of a large warehouse strategic development effort consisting of data loads and data mart creation to enable quality analytics for our business users. This role will partner very closely with our IT counterparts to ensure that the warehouse will meet the business needs and expectations. This role will work closely with many business areas in BI such as actuarial, finance, product, underwriting to understand their needs during requirements development.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop business requirements, data requirements and business rules for large development warehouse project
- Partner with IT in the analysis and design of solutions to ensure requirements are met.
- Support business users in understanding and using data and Business Intelligence tools
- Build relationships with business users and BIBI leadership
- Promote and Support the Business Intelligence strategy to business areas
- Facilitate and Manage requirements review sessions
- Manage requirements traceability and change request process
- Ensure quality of delivered projects through understanding business needs and overseeing deliverables to ensure that projects deliver business value
- Partner with IT QA group to provide business SME support in the implementation of their test plan, test conditions.
- Support business users in understanding and using data and Business Intelligence tools
- Mentor other business analysts on the team
- Create and/or provide input to project plans as they pertain to requirements
- Lead meetings with subject matter experts and ensure output is documented
- Ensure that requirements diagrams, models and definitions are complete and consistent, and meet the needs of the project
- Ensure preparation of requirements documentation as required by the project
- Provide expertise on the tools that the delivery methodology recommends for requirements modelling, review, documentation and management
- Understand and use the components of the delivery methodology that focus on requirements
- Serve as manager/lead on small-to-large scale requirements projects
- Plan and facilitate the user acceptance testing phase of projects
- Develop, maintain business test cases necessary to validate that requirements are met.
- Facilitate and participate in user training session
- Lead user groups to ensure user adoption of strategic projects
Work Experience
- 5+ years background as a data analyst, business analyst, Management Information Analyst or equivalent position in the insurance industry required.
- 5+ years working in the field of data warehousing, Business Intelligence and/or financial systems is desired
- Basic understanding of the various analytical and reporting processes in a large insurance company including operational reporting, predictive modelling, financial analysis, and data mining.
- Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with a diverse group of people at all levels in both IT and business
- Exposure or familiarity with Business Insurance premium and loss data is desired but not required.
- Exposure or familiarity Legacy Travelers and/or St. Paul premium systems or management information systems or data is desired but not required.
- Demonstrated experience with SQL, Access or similar software
- Management experience desired but not required.

Education:
- BS/BA in Computer Science, MIS, Business, Statistics or other related field; MBA/MS a plus
