- Planning, controlling, and assuring product and process quality to reduce process variation and optimize capability performance for consumer satisfaction. Create and implement statistical quality systems including executing statistical plans and data analysis and training others to use statistics in their daily roles.
- Develop action plans with Production, Plant QA, Engineering, R&D and Division Quality Assurance to insure that product specifications, analytical procedures, sampling programs and sensory evaluations are appropriate and meet system capability and key consumer requirements.
- Responsible for effectively leading teams through seven step problem solving, TPM activities, and quality improvement processes. This includes, quantitative methods, project planning and facilitation skills. Lead the Business Unit QM pillar.
- Assure that quality systems development, implementation and verification are in place in order to make quality evaluations, recommend actions for improvement, and assure resolution. This role is responsible to report deviations from established standards and policies to BU and Plant QA leadership and to insure prompt and immediate corrective action.
- Provide reliability and risk management analysis. Make recommendations for the improvement of production, design and test processes, which would affect product quality. Assure key learning's from root-cause findings are implemented in like systems to reduce opportunity for repetitive issues.
- Provide business unit quality training, to include food safety and allergen plans, applied statistics, regulatory requirements, GMPs and quality measurement systems. Be capable of delivering training in the area of continuous improvement processes.
- Participate as business unit quality representative on all projects EM related activities. Act as liaison to Plant QA for support with additional insight and feedback on projects and statistical analysis of equipment capability.
- Manage all aspects of product quality and food safety for the BU. This is inclusive of product specs, a quality manual, weight control, traceability, in process and finished product testing and food safety and allergen. Conduct QSA self-inspections and participate in annual QSA audit program.
- Develop, coordinate and recommend procedures in conducting R&D plant tests to assure they are completed in an efficient manner. Also serve as a liaison to Barrington for in-process and finished product spec issues. Ensure that the team is using the most current and complete specs.
- Be aware of new developments within areas of specialty, including new equipment, procedures and techniques to assure up to date methods are in place and moving from output data collection to input data collection reducing time required to measure in process controls.
- Lead and/or participate in root-cause investigations of food safety issues, and follow up on corrective actions as assigned. Assure all SRC's are completed and returned to QA lab and assist in the SRC process to reduce and eliminate repeat and excessive quality holds.
- Be able to manage the Quality Hold program in areas of Hold initiation, verification, reconciliation, and closing. Be one of the plant hold resources (KPI owner) and subject matter experts (SME) to assure all SRC's are initiated and completed for all repetitive, excessive, and food safety holds; provide data and trending reports to the teams and plant; and effective partnerships within the plant and with co-packers and distribution centers.
- Coach an AM or HPWS team using TPM coaching methods and tools to progress successfully through audit sections on scheduled timelines.
- Be able to lead in-process sensory programs as needed which includes facilitating RTE/QNG/AJ walls; routinely perform sensory testing on R&D tests as well as the evaluation of any suspect product; managing the sensory program with obtaining target samples for the program and compiling sensory reporting. Leads CC investigation, testing and response for sensory attributes complaints or issues.
- Actively involved in the HPWS/NWT culture up to and including being a Site Trainer, Mentor, or Facilitator.
- Provide leadership in routine laboratory functions, including assisting in the identification, hiring, training and onboard of all new QA technicians utilizing diversity goals to assure they are properly trained to work in the Danville QA Lab. Also provide site training for all plant personnel in regards to the quality systems and processes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Food Science, Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field or comparable experience consisting of 5 years minimum.
- Clear understanding and working knowledge of Process and Compliance Quality Systems.
- Ability to motivate and lead teams.
- Ability to train others in Total Quality Management Philosophies.
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Ability to communicate with all levels of management and plant personnel.
- Working knowledge in principals of SPC, Project Management, Facilitation, Prioritization, Problem Solving skills.
- Ability to work in both union and non-union environments.
- Must be willing and able to travel minimally in this position.
