Description/Duties

AnInformation Technology (IT) Engineer II is responsible for independently providing primary and secondary skilled technical services in support of installation, configuration, testing, integration, and ongoing support for City infrastructure requiring an in-depth knowledge of the City's platforms and environment in support of meeting availability and performance goals, and may provide leadership for multiple medium- to large-scale projects concurrently. This class is responsible for one or more assigned technology areas andfor meeting service expectations and customer commitments in those areas.The position may also serve as a project technical lead for server infrastructure projects and is responsible for positively and actively participating in team training, and demonstrating team skills learned by applying and reinforcing team principles in daily work with functional teams. Employees in this class are required to participate in team on-call support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This class is FLSA exempt-computer professional.

Server Assignment: This assignment is part of a high-performing team of Server Engineers that plan, deploy, document, maintain, and troubleshoot the City's server, storage and backup infrastructure. This assignment also plans, assesses, and proactively monitors the platform and environment to meet performance and availability metrics; plans, coordinates, and ensures firmware and software configurations are in place and monitors performance of specific areas under primary responsibility by proactively taking preemptive measures to minimize interruptions; documents actions performed to improve skill transfer/knowledge transfer to secondary support; performs complex diagnostics and troubleshooting in support of designated platforms; and test scripts and Quality Assurance (QA) processes resulting in an increased percentage of successfully implemented changes. The individual selected for this assignment will be expected to mentor and actively share technical expertise with others in the areas ofServer, Storage and Backup.

About the Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter with strong technical, analytical, project management, learning and communication skills who understands servers, storage and backup infrastructure and processes. The preferred individual demonstrates analytical thinking and organizational skills and has the capacity to analyze and solve real-world problems, learn new skills, and effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical City of Mesa staff at all levels of the organization. He/she willhave a comprehensive understanding of one or more of the technologies supported and have the ability to interface with City of Mesa employees and department managers to gather requirements,utilize data analysis methodologies to answer key business questions, andperform technical and/or project leadership for a medium-to large-size project or multiple small- to medium-scale projects concurrently. The ideal candidate should be proficient in written and verbal communication, customer service and teamwork, and project and/or technical leadership.

The ideal candidate's technical skills include: Strong experience with Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS), Windows Server, and VMWare administration and management. Familiarity with Windows Server, storage, and storage area networks, such as NetApp and Nimble storage. Experience supporting medium or large enterprise systems, NetBackup environment, and Windows/Red Hat Enterprise Linux is a plus. Proficiency in report writing and/or developing and maintaining technical documentation is highly desirable.
