Position Description:

Purpose: The Technical Support Analyst Sr is responsible for administering, developing, implementing and/or maintaining programs, databases, and reports for Actuarial use. They deliver and maintain high quality Actuarial systems that meet the business needs of the department.

Essential functions:
1. Provide business analysis and programming expertise in the analysis, design and development of business applications
2. Formulate and define application scope and objectives; devise and modify procedures to solve business problems
3. Work as a liaison between Actuarial systems and IT production support to ensure systems are kept functional and current
4. Able to design, code, test, debug and document programs, if needed.
5. Develop business relationships and integrate activities with other departments to ensure successful implementation and support project efforts
6. Lead projects and regularly mentor other personnel to ensure business application systems are developed in a way that complies with architectural standards and established methodologies and practices
7. Monitor and report to management on the status of project efforts, anticipating/identifying issues that inhibit the attainment of project goals and implementing corrective actions
8. Foster and maintain good relationships with customers and Actuarial colleagues to meet expected customer service levels
9. Handle multiple assignments concurrently
10. Proactively seek new assignments
11. Create clear and accurate estimates for application development
12. Resolve any issues that arise during the course of the projects assigned

Position Requirements
Requirements:
1. Bachelor's degree in Math, Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent work experience and technical training are required. Minimum experience of five years in a programming environment is required.
2. Strong technical knowledge, with hands-on experience managing systems development in several computing architectures and environments (eg client/server and mainframe)
3. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to express complex technical concepts in business terms
4. Good project management skills, operating as part of a team. Organizing, planning and executing projects from vision through implementation
5. Able to write comprehensive test plans and complete them successfully
6. Proficient in platform appropriate programming languages, utilities and code management tools
7. Expertise in Cobol, JCL, MS Excel, Access, Word and SQL
8. Strong technical knowledge with hands-on experience of various file organizations, for example: VSAM and DB2
9. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual skills
10. Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work well on cross-functional projects and foster team commitment to tasks
11. Able to meet objectives and target dates under pressure, react to changing priorities, demonstrate initiative, and develop new skills.
12. Demonstrate a positive attitude
13. Able to lift and move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, such as PC equipment, printers, paper boxes, etc.
