BASIC FUNCTION:
The Java Developer II designs, codes and tests software as a part of the software development team responsible for building and maintaining the RightThingRecruit and ADP/Recruit products.
The Java Developer II interprets the requirements of internal and external customers, including business analysts, to build appropriate software. He or she also analyzes and investigates problems that have been reported by clients and internal users, including QA analysts, documents the results of their investigations and creates value-added solutions. Production responsibilities include technical design, coding and testing.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Designs, codes and tests software using technologies, techniques, and tools to ensure high quality, performance, and reliability, at varying levels of complexity.
- Following department coding standards, writing well documented programs that perform effectively and efficiently.
- Performs system analysis and design in accordance with established procedures and policies. Provides accurate estimate of time needed to complete work.
- Performs comprehensive testing to verify program accuracy and reliability. Follows established procedures for developing test plans.
- Participates in specification, design, code, and test reviews, at varying levels of complexity.
- Provides support for specification, design, testing, deployment, documentation, and production.
- Modifies existing applications with a minimum of program specifications. Investigates, analyzes, and resolves problems with programs.
- Creates tests and performs tests to ensure programs perform according to specifications.
- Participates in design and code reviews with supervision.
- Investigates and corrects production problems.
- Has proficient knowledge of assigned applications, systems, and programming standards.
- Provides timely and accurate reporting to the manager.
- Creates appropriate documentation according to policies and procedures that will indicate progress to plan, solutions, alternatives, etc.
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Experience (3-5 years) professional software engineering with the following expertise:
- Very strong knowledge of Java and its class libraries
- Good understanding of data structures and algorithms
- Strong experience with web architecture design and development tools and languages; especially Java/JSP
- Good understanding of object-oriented concepts and at least one major object-oriented development method.
- Reading knowledge of static and dynamic object models using a standard modelling language.
- Basic knowledge of analysis and design patterns.
- Design abilities at the class and interface level.
- Basic knowledge of configuration management and control and associated tools.
- Good understanding of RDBMS and SQL
Education:
Bachelors in Computer Science, Engineering or comparable degree. Advanced degree preferred. Will consider experience in lieu of degree
