Description

The Associate Engineer/Scientist for the Upstream Process Development group will work in cell culture laboratories, participating in a cross functional team involved in the development, optimization, scale up and technology transfer support of biologic manufacturing processes. The candidate will design and execute bioreactors experiments as well as be responsible for maintenance of critical equipment. The candidate will also be part of a core team responsible for general lab maintenance initiatives that are compliant with 5s lean principles and practices.

Primary duties involve: execution of experiments for cell culture process development including but not limited to clone selection, adaptations to platform media, batch and fed-batch studies on shake flasks, bioreactor runs to optimize process yield, scale up studies and participation in media development activities. Additional responsibilities include electronic record keeping, maintenance of bioreactors and probes, and ordering. This position is expected to assist in the assessment of innovative process technologies into development and establish a close and effective interaction with personnel across process sciences groups and clinical manufacturing groups.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a MS Degree in Chemical Engineering, or related discipline, or a BA with more than 3 years of relevant industry experience. The candidate must be proficient in sterile cell culture techniques, and have hands on experience with bench top bioreactors in the laboratory environment. Fundamental understanding and experience in design and execution of cell culture lab processes, operation of equipment (including bench top and wave bioreactors, shake flasks), and analysis of experimental data is required. Knowledge of cell biology, and strong oral and technical report writing skills are desired. The successful candidate will be proactive, demonstrate good communication skills, have proven ability to work in a team environment and is self-motivated.
