As a Principal Engineer in High Voltage Engineering, you will leverage your technical expertise and experience to shape technology development in High Voltage Engineering, HVDC, and transmission line equipment and enable the transfer of technologies developed at the Research Center into GE product businesses.
You will develop a technology roadmap, and execute on it by formulating and implementing new programs or integrating major programs to meet key technical objectives.
Essential Responsibilities: As a Principal Engineer you will:
- Be recognized as a technical expert and provide senior technical expertise and vision in the fields of high voltage engineering, HVDC, transmission technologies, and equipment for high voltage substations.
- Participate in identifying, planning, and developing strategies to enhance GE's competitiveness in this space.
- Guide technical excellence and execution within the organization.
- Guide the direction for the organization's future resource needs in terms of both infrastructure and staffing.
- Direct the evolution of new ideas in the areas of high voltage engineering, HVDC, transmission technologies, and equipment for high voltage substations.
- Build strong networks with technologists and leaders at GE businesses and within Global Research.
- Collaborate with the GE Businesses to implement inventions and improvements to existing product infrastructure.
- Build technology collaborations with universities, government agencies, and other companies.
- Mentor early to mid-career researchers and champion the Technical Career Path options within Global Research.

- Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering with at least 10 years in research & development environment for high voltage technologies or a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering with at least 15 years in research & development environment for high voltage technologies
- Broad based experimental and analytical skills with major emphasis on transmission line voltage levels, HVDC, high voltage engineering, and associated instrumentation
- Experience in developing and managing research programs with a proven track record for successful project management and product development.
- Experience in working in global teams.
- Strong strategic focus & influencing skills to drive innovative technologies and shape product design for producibility.
- Demonstrated project leadership experience, including successful track record of completing deliverables on schedule and under budget.
- Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.
