Job Title: Database Administrator
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
The Database Administrator is responsible for supporting the databases deployed at the corporate facility in Rhode Island, as well as some smaller databases deployed in various global facilities (eg East LongMeadow, Dedham, etc.). Every enterprise application at Hasbro has a Back End database where the application data is stored. The database administrators are responsible for ensuring that the databases are functioning properly, taking backups of the repositories, performing maintenance on the systems (building and maintaining indices to ensure applications perform effectively and data can quickly be accessed), and managing the growth, patching, and end-of-life of the databases to ensure the applications are running on efficient, manageable, and supported platforms at Hasbro. Most applications are reliant on a properly configured and running database in order to function properly (eg SAP, Microsoft Exchange, Livelink, etc.). Failure to properly maintain the database repositories could result in extended outages to critical applications supporting the Hasbro business. This resource will work closely with other members of the Database administration team, members of the technical infrastructure team (server, storage, network, security teams, etc.) as well as with IT business liaisons.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILTIES:
Day to day SQL Server administration and support.
This includes:
- Support and administer various versions of SQL Server (SQL 2005 to SQL 2012)
- Installing new databases and upgrade existing installation to support business requirements
- Research and resolve SQL Server software and database issues
- Monitor systems and proactively respond to issues
- Work with business partners to schedule maintenance and communicate incidents
- Independently troubleshoot problem tickets and work with vendors to rectify issues
- Database software patching and day-to-day management
- Perform off hours on call support on a rotating basis
- Support the capturing and reporting of data access metrics
- Monitor database utilization and database space consumption trends
- Manage increasing capacity of database data files
- Develop and support data cleanup, monitoring, archiving procedures
- Support and refresh test environments to support business support needs
- Manage SQL installations configured on Microsoft Clustering platform
Support other database installations including Oracle, MySQL, and Sybase
- Support and administer installations of MySQL, and a handful of Oracle & Sybase databases
- Installing new databases and upgrade existing installation to support business requirements
- Research and resolve database software and related DB access issues
- Monitor systems and proactively respond to issues
- Work with business partners to schedule maintenance and communicate incidents
- Independently troubleshoot problem tickets and work with vendors to rectify issues
- Database software patching and day-to-day management
- Perform off hours on call support on a rotating basis
- Support the capturing and reporting of data access metrics

Support the backup and recovery of corporate data:
- Configure new backups of databases using IBM TSM and/or Veritas NetBackup
- Assist with data backup and recovery
- Research new trends and advances in database solutions and practices
- Help create strategic roadmaps for Hasbro database technologies
- Provide assistance for disaster recovery planning and testing
- Support the build/recovery of systems during the annual Disaster Recovery (DR) test
- Assist with documenting and maintaining the standard operating procedures for DR
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Microsoft SQL Server Database Administration expertise (2 years minimum)
- Experience with the recent versions of Microsoft SQL Server (2005, 2008 and 2008R2, 2012)
- Experience with data backup, recovery and SQL Server maintenance using Veritas Netbackup or IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM)
- Experience with SQL Server performance tuning and troubleshooting
- Experience supporting a secondary database platform besides SQL Server (MySQL, oracle, DB2, Sybase, etc.)
- Experience working with Microsoft Clustering for High Availability
- Experience with database replication technologies
- Must possess a very high technical aptitude
- Must be an outstanding team player
- Must possess superior analytical and trouble-shooting skills
- Must have a sense of urgency in meeting project and task deadlines and in resolving production issues
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are mandatory
- Superior organizational skills and work methods are necessary for this position
- Must demonstrate initiative and be a self-starter
- Must be innovative in developing server solutions
- Must have a thorough understanding of change management concepts
- ITIL V.3 certification preferred
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- B.S or B.A. degree is preferred
- Minimum of 5 years experience working with Microsoft SQL Server
