Day to Day Work

The Senior Network Engineer is accountable for the design, implementation and L3/4 support for global network focusing on routing, switching and security.

The role is responsible for the engineering, operation, and maintenance of the company-wide network and/or security infrastructure including: analysis and support for one or more of the following: routers, switches, firewalls, VPN concentrators, intrusion detection systems, and event correlation systems.

Incumbent will work with wide latitude for independent judgment, yet closely with others within Network Services, and provide third-tier technical support to various departments/users with regard to the network and/or security infrastructure.

More specifically:

* Performs complex design, engineering, implementation, maintenance, and upgrade of the local area network (LAN) and/or wide area network (WAN), and/or security infrastructure
* Maintains thorough knowledge of existing network and/or security hardware and software in use to provide third-tier technical and administrative support, monitor, and evaluate the efficiency of the network
* Provides complex internal analysis and support of the network and/or security infrastructure
* Periodically reviews technical documentation of environment supported to ensure that it is correct and up-to-date
* Assesses and contributes to, when needed, documentation evaluating network and/or security information including measuring and formal reporting of appropriate metrics in periodic intervals for completeness
* Proactively anticipates networking and/or security needs for planning/budgeting via monitoring the community's appropriate usage.
* Remains informed of new developments and trends; evaluates and makes recommendations to management on desirable additions and developments.
* Develops business continuity and disaster recovery plans, and maintains current knowledge of plan execution.
* Responds to emergency network outages in accordance with business continuity and disaster recovery plans.

Technical & Behavioral Skills

Educational and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science (or equivalent work experience)

CCNP certification a plus.

Generally requires six to nine years of network engineering experience.

Strong customer service background

Comprehensive understanding of tools and utilities used in administration and management of simple and complex network or security infrastructure

Highly skilled in network performance analysis and troubleshooting complex network or security related problems

Technical

Technical Skills and Proficiencies in one or more of the following areas are required:

Network

* In-depth knowledge of Cisco hardware and IOS
* Hands on experience with EIGRP and BGP
* Comprehensive knowledge of network and security principals - LAN/WAN and Internet technologies - minimum six years' experience
* Knowledge of security technologies considered a plus

Security

* Actively participates in the development, support and maintenance of all aspects of security practices within area of responsibility
* Ensures process and procedures are in place to enhance security and controls
* Collaborates and communicates with other areas to stay informed of changes and developments that may require Information Security intervention as well as keeping other departments informed of security initiatives that may affect other business units
* Knowledge of Check Point Firewall, Cisco IOS, and other industry leading security appliances/devices.
* Comprehensive knowledge of security principals and networking - LAN/WAN and Internet technologies
