Microsoft's Legal & Corporate Affairs (LCA) team has an opening for an attorney to provide strategic legal support to the Data Platform Group in Microsoft's Server and Tools Business. The Data Platform Group is on a pioneering mission to reinvent modern information supply and management. As legal support, you will be partnering with clients to build the information supply chain for business enterprises, enabling Microsoft customers to discover, create, curate, transform, analyze and share volumes of data and to help them drive and manage their business in ways not otherwise possible.

Responsibilities include:
Providing creative and proactive counseling on a broad range of complex legal, business and policy issues for clients engaged in implementing Microsoft's vision of the data platform, including intellectual property licensing, new business model development, and open source and regulatory compliance.
Draft and negotiate a variety of legal agreements in coordination with internal business clients, including development agreements, collaboration agreements and intellectual property acquisitions.
Partner with internal business clients and LCA colleagues to develop policies and best practices related to legal and regulatory issues that affect the business.
Build strong client relationships and become a trusted advisor to the business.
Drive process related improvements.

Requirements:
J.D. from an ABA accredited law school
At least 3 years of experience as a practicing attorney
Academic credentials, excellent oral and written communication skills. and a commitment to providing the highest quality client service
Experience with product development, software licensing and other commercial contracts involving the acquisition and exploitation of technology and IP is extremely valuable
Effective in managing projects across organizational boundaries to drive results
Familiarity with open source software, copyright and privacy law is strongly preferred.
