The Office Server and Services (OSS) team supports software and services businesses in the Office Division with billions of dollars of revenue. We support products and services including SharePoint, Exchange, Yammer, Project, and the Office 365 suite of enterprise cloud services. We have an immediate opening for an experienced and motivated paralegal in our global headquarters in Redmond, Washington. The paralegal will join the legal and corporate affairs (LCA) team supporting the engineering and marketing of enterprise products and services that are a major strategic focus for Microsoft.
Primary Responsibilities:
This paralegal will work as part of a team supporting OSS clients on a broad range of legal issues related to software development, intellectual property protection and licensing. The position will report to the Senior Attorney lead for the team supporting SharePoint, FAST search, Project, Access, and Office 365's expansion into China. In addition to helping the broader OSS/Office 365 teams as needed, the paralegal will serve as the primary point of contact for certain client groups within OSS, such as the Project Online service and Project Server, which is a $1 billion business for Microsoft. The position will have substantive responsibilities related to execution of our strategy for Office 365 and Azure in China. Other Primary Responsibilities include:
Analyzing legal and business matters, providing proactive and practical advice, and helping the business develop creative solutions to complex business, marketing and intellectual property issues;
Coordinating with LCA colleagues to manage issues involving intellectual property law, privacy concerns, litigation, antitrust policies, competitive intelligence, regulatory compliance, government affairs, and other issues;
Customizing and providing EULAs for Office server products;
Supporting the annual SharePoint Conference, with attendance of 10,000+ people;
Supporting the Office Store, assisting with terms and policies for the Office Store internationally, and providing legal support for Office Store apps developed by Microsoft;
Providing pre-publication review for marketing and collateral materials, including advice on advertising claims;
Formulating and deploying process-related improvements related to the provision of legal support services, including drafting and revising template agreements.
Qualifications for this position include:
BA/BS degree, Paralegal Certification or relevant work experience;
5+ years relevant experience in sophisticated legal environments;
Outstanding analytical and oral and written communication skills;
Keen business sense, with the ability to find creative business-oriented solutions to legal issues, balancing legal risks against business interests;
Strong results orientation with a dedicated client focus;
Demonstrated ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, prioritizing workflow and adjusting to changing business demands;
Ability to work independently while also being a strong collaborator and team player;
Desire to interface with a variety of personalities across diverse internal groups, teams, divisions and cultures; and
Technology company experience is a plus.
