Description
Our Central Specialty Center Oncology clinic has an opening for a RN to provide patient focused care to this rewarding and challenging population.
We are looking for a RN who has oncology experience working with patients on the continuum from a new diagnosis to those at the end of life.
The focus is on care coordination, telephone triage, symptom management and patient education. Members of the Oncology team including physicians, ARNP, RNs and LPN work together to provide a superior customer experience for our oncology patients.
General Job summary
The Oncology RN's primary responsibility is to assess, plan, implement and evaluate Oncology and Hematology patients. The Oncology RN utilizes telephone interviewing skills and critical thinking skills in assessing patient symptoms, and changes to determine appropriate education and support. Symptom management and education is performed in person and via telephone. The Oncology RN provides education to patients about cancer diagnosis, cancer therapy, treatment and treatment alternatives. The Oncology RN remains current with the changing treatments and evidence based care required to effectively care for this patient population. The Oncology RN is able to care for adult, adolescent and geriatric populations and is aware of the age specific considerations in delivering care to these populations. The Oncology RN cares for these patients in a culturally, spiritually, and ethnically diverse manner realizing that the patient response to illness differs with each individual. The Oncology RN coordinates patient care utilizing GHC and community resources.
Qualifications
Experience Requirements
Minimum: 2 years oncology experience in ambulatory and/or acute care.
Preferred: Four years recent clinical RN experience in oncology or acute care, oncology infusion therapy experience
Knowledge requirements
Minimum:
Possess knowledge and demonstrates experience with end of life needs for oncology patients and family members
Ability to understand and explain treatments associated with biologics, IV hydration, and IV antibiotic medications
Ability to exercise independent professional judgment
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
Demonstrates an exceptional level of easily understood verbal communication on the phone
Ability to collaborate with care team members
Demonstrates care, courtesy and concern in all consumer and colleague interactions
Provides culturally sensitive care including consideration for diverse cultures, ethnicity, language, community, background and healthcare beliefs
Ability to educate and instruct patients and families in accordance with the nursing plan of care
Intermediate computer and keyboarding skills
Education Requirements
Minimum: RN Degree from an accredited program.
Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
Certification requirements
Minimum: Current Washington State RN license, CPR,
Preferred: Oncology or Chemotherapy certification
