General Manager - Sports Club (Permanent)

Location: Bondi Junction, Sydney Country: Australia Rate: $60k to $100k p.a. + superannuation
 

About Us

The Bondi Waverley Squash Club is a Registered Club situated in Bondi Junction. We provide four squash courts, changing rooms, a bar and function facility so our members and their guests can both play squash and meet socially. Our commitment to our members is our number one priority.

About the role

As the General Manager you will be responsible for driving the business within an agreed operating budget and in accordance with the directions of the Board. You will be confident with financial and business planning, club compliance requirements and be able to demonstrate appropriate experience in these areas.

We are looking for a dynamic leader with strong people skills and experience in the recreation, leisure and sport industry, or the Registered Club industry. You will have an understanding of and experience in developing and delivering community-based recreation, well-being and activity-focused programs.

The successful candidate will also have the skills to manage, develop, inspire and motivate staff at the club. You will come with a reputation for taking control over the business and demonstrating substantial commercial acumen. You have the experience to provide high quality service to our members and manage customer relations through effective sales and marketing campaigns.

You will participate in monthly Board meetings to report on your activities and the progress towards completing the key deliverables set by the Board.

Annually, you will work with the Board to establish the strategic direction of the club and prepare the annual budget and key deliverables.

About you

  • Significant industry knowledge and experience of at least 3 - 5 years facility management responsibility at Manager; Assistant Manager; Centre Co-ordinator; or Registered Clubs management (desirable but not essential); and

  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline (Sports Management; Business; etc) will be considered an advantage (but not essential).

  • Holding a Responsible Service of Alcohol & Responsible Conduct of Gambling certification would be advantageous

  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal and communication skills including written and oral reporting

  • An understanding of new and old-world marketing

  • Experience in managing staff

  • Experience in tending bar

  • Experience in financial management including developing and managing budgets

  • Ability to direct and oversee the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of appropriate sporting programs

  • First Aid and CPR qualifications

Remuneration

Salary will be commensurate to experience and be in the region of $60,000 to $100,000 p.a. plus superannuation.

You will be eligible for a bonus for achieving the key deliverables set by the Board.

Given the unique nature of the recreation industry, candidates must be flexible to meet the needs of the Club including some early mornings, evenings, weekends and public holidays work as required.

Overtime is not paid.

Annual leave and LSL are provided in accordance with statutory requirements.
