Our client is a large Australian financial institution who is currently undergoing major transformation uplift of its risk & technology infrastructure. Significant people and capability growth are required in support of this to embed effective risk management across the Enterprise. Great opportunities have been created in the 1st Line Assurance team to help leaders proactively manage their risk and control environment, events, issues or breaches and to ensure business stakeholders meet policy and compliance requirements.

Reporting directly to the GM of Divisional Controls, this role is critical in driving risk assurance awareness, understanding, and change to create a center of excellence for controls including the uplift of the controls infrastructure.

Your key responsibilities will include:
  • Advising business leaders on the application of the operational risk and compliance management framework
  • Operational risk and regulatory obligation identification, impact assessment and change
  • Engaging and managing senior stakeholders to implement and improve business systems and processes through the use/integration of the risk and compliance framework
  • Working with the business to implement systems and controls to manage the requirements of operational risk and compliance policies
  • Assisting to identify key risks and design of indicators to monitor and input into Divisional Risk Setting Statements
  • Assisting to identify and design the right key controls to mitigate key risks and obligations
  • Providing guidance on risk and control items including subject matter expertise for Risks, Obligations Events, Change, and related Policies; Remediation action plans to address any control design or operating effectiveness gaps; Requisitions on Management attestations, ensuring evidence is consolidated at a Sub-Divisional level; Relevant Risk Management Forums and/or other risk related committees
  • Developing and maintaining compliance plans
  • Completing compliance obligations assessment
  • Providing business specific input and context to risk deep dive reviews & internal audit reviews, assurance reports, action plans for ineffective operational controls, uplifting risk management maturity and practices, assisting in regulatory responses and regulatory engagement matters and leading key initiatives
Experience required:
  • Excellent knowledge of risk management and compliance disciplines
  • Practical approach to solving issues with strong commercial acumen
  • Exceptional time management and ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities
  • 7+ years' experience in operational risk management
  • Tertiary qualification in a business-related discipline with a post graduate qualification desirable
Skills and Capabilities:
  • Strong Communication skills with ability to influence & build relationships with senior stakeholders
  • Ability to develop and implement strategic and operational risk management techniques
  • Ability to effect change and challenge the status quo
  • Risk audit, Fraud & Cloud knowledge would be well regarded
