Overview

Marathon Petroleum Corporation's (MPC) refining-related operations are considered part of the merchant-refiner segment of the industry. MPC purchases crude oil from producers and other suppliers, and then transports the crude oil to its refining system. This Crude Oil Analyst position is located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, where a team of schedulers, crude oil traders, and analysts work together with U.S.-based counterparts to schedule and optimize crude oil supply throughout MPC's 16-plant refining system in the U.S. The incumbent is responsible for supporting Trading operations while working with the Logistics, Strategy & Analysis team, as well as with Refining, to identify optimization opportunities within the system. The markets and systems analyzed are some of the most complex in the world, including the Enbridge Mainline system, the TransMountain Pipeline, and Keystone Pipeline system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain crude oil market models and predictive analytics.
  • Recognize events or changes in domestic and global crude oil supplies and logistics and evaluate how they can impact MPC crude oil supply strategy.
  • Develop and maintain crude oil supply and demand balances and future projections based on fundamentals and industry intelligence.
  • Present to all levels of MPC Crude Oil leadership.
  • Drive improvement in models and modeling techniques to enhance crude oil supply and logistics forecasting.
  • Develop expertise in different modeling tools and their applications

Education & Expereince Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required in Engineering, Logistics, Business, Marketing, or relevant alternative
  • 2 or more years of experience in market analytics or proven execution of comparable requirements within the petroleum industry
  • Travel Requirement (%) Less than 5%
