We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our case management team to help employees navigate through our disability program. You would be aiding in reviewing employee short-term disability (STD) benefit claim applications, and facilitating safe and sustainable return to regular and modified duties. If you enjoy supporting people through the disability process, then we have a meaningful opportunity for you! In this temporary role, you will be managing a high volume of applications to facilitate the development and implementation of short term modified work assignments.

You will use your expertise to :

  • Capture and assess both medical and non-medical information for an employee's health event to determine if the request for a medical leave and/or modified duties is medically supported
  • Determine eligibility for STD benefits at onset and if applicable, for the initial 30-day time period of the claim
  • Evaluate fitness for work within the Integrated Disability Management (IDM) program and identify and communicate restrictions and limitations, where applicable
  • Develop short duration transitional plans to facilitate with employee's return to work
  • Educate and inform key partners on the requirements of the IDM program, including roles and responsibilities, expectations and consequences
  • Actively seek and identify risks associated with the individual's health event
  • Identify risks in association with Human Rights, Labour and Employee Relations, and Workers Compensation premium impacts
  • Exercise ethical and professional discernment in determining the appropriate collection, use and disclosure of personal health information, working closely with Suncor's Privacy Officer and legal counsel
  • Ensure detailed documentation of ongoing claim activities and IDM program metrics in the Health and Wellness software application

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Two or more years of claims or disability management experience
  • A Bachelor's degree in human sciences, kinesiology, physiotherapy, nursing, or equivalent experience and education
  • Experience with Workers Compensation legislation, policies, as well as short and long-term disability plans
  • A strong attention to detail and analytical skills with a continuous improvement focus
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong collaboration skills that enables you to build strong, positive relationships with diverse groups
  • Non-authoritative leadership and influencing skills
  • A demonstrated ability to deal with sensitive situations with empathy and tact
  • Alignment with our values : safety above all else, stronger together, operational discipline, curiosity and lifelong learning, and act with integrity

Preference for:

  • Bilingual (English and French) - please submit your resume in English
  • Experience working in a large multifaceted organization and oil and gas and/or mining sector
  • Certification in disability management
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
  • Knowledge of Medgate/Cority

Where you'll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 - 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • This is a temporary position until June 2021
  • This position requires the ability to handle heavy workload and multiple demands from various sources
