The opportunity

TC Energy is seeking a Petroleum Quality (PQ) and Measurement Engineer to work within the Liquid Pipelines Petroleum Quality and Measurement Engineering team. The Petroleum Quality Engineer will measure, trend, analyze and report on the status of product within our operating liquids facilities. This role involves problem solving and collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate must value working in a team environment and have a sense of pride and ownership of their work.

What you'll do

  • Liaise with customers, connected facilities and stakeholders to ensure a clear understanding of quality commitments and concerns of all parties within our liquid facilities
  • Lead the development and implementation of a Petroleum Quality Management program which is driven by TC Energy's Operations Management System (TOMS) program
  • Responsible for data modelling, historical data trending and troubleshooting related to PQ and Maintenance equipment performance, operational methods and procedures for better crude quality preservation
  • Work with internal stakeholders and advise on new and appropriate measurement products and be at the forefront of technology transformation
  • Collaborate with Field Staff to manage Field Crude Quality Lab processes
  • Lead investigations into quality incidents to determine root cause and make recommendations to mitigate risks
  • Responsible for the management and mitigation of volume gain/loss on the pipeline system
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior and intermediate Petroleum Quality and Measurement team members
  • Audit and evaluate measurement systems from 3rd party companies for compliance with applicable guidelines, regulations and performance
  • Demonstrate a personal commitment and proactive approach to Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) through participation in all applicable EH&S programs and ensures safe operation of the branch, team or unit and compliance with all Company EH&S policies and procedures

Minimum Qualifications

  • University degree in Engineering and Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) designation with APEGA,
  • or equivalent governing body
  • Minimum of six (6) years of progressive related work experience
  • Thorough understanding of American Petroleum Institute (API) MPMS
  • Strong understanding of crude oil chemistry, crude oil measurement systems and refining
  • Excellent knowledge of pipeline crude handling

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge in the numerous chemical and physical processes that may impact crude quality in a way that risks its value or the integrity of the facilities transporting the crude
  • Data modelling/analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Customer service mindset; follows through issues from start to finish
  • Able to work and contribute in a team environment while independently managing multiple and competing priorities
  • Flexible and able to adapt to a changing environment
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with internal and external groups
  • Desire to take on new challenges and question status-quo
  • Previous experience in the Field would be an asset
