Data Centre Engineer (Contract)

Location: Munich, Germany Country: Germany Rate: Competitive Day rate

We are currently recruiting for a Data Centre Engineer to work on an initial 6 months contract assignment based in Munich, Germany. (Duration is likely to extend)

Job Description for Data Centre Engineer

The position is very customer-oriented and requires a strong focus on customer requirements.

We are looking for a highly motivated Date Centre/Network Technician with minimum of 3 years of experience to join our team within Data Centre and Networking.

The ideal candidate is highly autonomous, very detail-oriented, possesses strong written and verbal communication skills and has experience in supporting large scale networks.

The primary job responsibility of the Technician is to provide the necessary technical support at Data Centres, to carry out System/Network installation, configuration and troubleshooting Network and connectivity issues.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • Installation of new cabling and cable management within a Date Centre Environment and decommissioning of redundant equipment.
  • Rack and stack Servers and other network hardware and tracking of assets and updating documentation.
  • Participate in the migration, configuration and rollout of new or upgraded hardware.
  • Ensure compliance with change control management and quality standards and manage Data Centre access according to business requirements.
  • Work closely with Network Engineering & Technical Project Management team to ensure fast, smooth rollout of new projects and products.
  • Compliance to Client and Support Services approved processes.
  • Manage work and priorities through ticketing system and workflow.
  • Troubleshooting Networking, Routing and connectivity issues, including device configuration and cabling infrastructure patch panels and patch cords.
  • Update the existing documents about Assets, Configuration Items and create new documents when required.
  • Practical troubleshooting solutions and focus on technical self-development to improve the support services to the client.
  • Should be proactive to improve support services with excellent communication skills and ability to understand priorities.
  • Ability to travel within geographical work area is required Within 3 sites in Munich.


  • Data Centre/Network Technicians are expected to work with established best practices to refine operational procedures, develop new tooling/documentation with a proactive and innovative mind-set.
  • Good understanding of Data Centre and Network Systems and modern computer network infrastructure.
  • Practical experience of fibre and copper Voice and Data cabling including terminating, test equipment and techniques.
  • Good knowledge/experience of network cabling, optic types, and test equipment such as power meter and OTDR.
  • TCP/IP Networking knowledge.
  • Should monitor DC and Network Alarms and be able to identify errors/faults.
  • Experience in working with Switches, Routers and Voice and Data Cabling.
  • Good Experience of Cisco IOS and CLI and LAN/WAN and Wireless devices.
  • Experience in working with Ticketing Systems and to understand different priorities.
  • Experience in a MACD environment with focus on Operational Data Centre.
  • Good Knowledge of ITIL concepts and Incident/Change Management.

Educational background

The candidate should ideally have bachelor's degree in Computer Science or IT Engineering.

Ideal professional qualifications:

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate Route & Switch
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate Data Centre (CCNA Data Centre)
  • ITIL Foundation v3
