2nd Line Infrastructure Engineer (Permanent)

Location: Newcastle upon Tyne Country: UK Rate: £20k - £25k per annum + + Shift Allowance

2nd Line Infrastructure Engineer


£20,000-£25,000 + £3,000 shift allowance

Our client is recruiting for a 2nd Line Infrastructure Engineer to be based in Newcastle. This is a permanent full time role working 37.5 hours per week.

Complex work pattern - Mon - Fri 06:00 - 22:00 Sat 07:00 - 12:00. On offer is a competitive salary.


  • Ensure that our client's IT Services are being proactively & re-actively monitored
  • Be responsible for day to day monitoring of our client's Lan/Wan and server infrastructure as well as managing and owning the process of patching to the Lan/Wan and Server Infrastructure in accordance with policies and procedures that our client adheres to
  • Be responsible to the management of 3rd party suppliers and ensure that downtime notice or planned maintenance from these suppliers is communicated to the wider IT Team using Incident and/or Change Management.
  • Server/Lan/Wan patching within the defined patching windows
  • Ensure scheduled review of Back-Up logs, taking the necessary steps to address failures
  • Escalate and manage incidents to ensure quickest service restoration time
  • Manage 3rd party Providers and ensure any downtime/outages following Policies and Procedures

Skills & Experience;

  • 2+ years of experience working with data centre technology within a large corporate environment with an emphasis on Network and Service Operations Centres (NOC/SOC)
  • Managing and supporting network and server infrastructures
  • Use and configuration of patching technology and best practice (Including SCCM, WSUS)
  • Use and configuration of monitoring technology and best practice (Including SolarWinds, LAN Sweeper)
  • Working with ITIL methodology
  • Experience in IT Service Desk environment with monitoring is a plus
  • Involvement with Disaster Recovery plans and related technologies
  • IT Service Delivery in a multiple technology domain
