Junior Network Engineer (Permanent)

Location: Edinburgh, Scotland Country: UK Rate: c£25K-£30K + car allowance and benefits

Junior Network Engineer - Edinburgh - c£25K-£30K plus benefits

The Role

Our client is seeking to appoint a Network Engineer to join their Network Operations team in Edinburgh. The successful candidate will be working on the operation and expansion of their Core Network to provide customers with best of breed network services.

Candidate profile

Our client are looking for candidates who are early on in their network career who have a solid understanding of vendor agnostic network principles and are eager to pursue a career in ISP networking.

Skills (Required)

  • Knowledge of OSPF and BGP
  • CCNA/JNCIA-Junos or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of Junos OS
  • Knowledge of MPLS technologies ie VPLS/L2VPN/L3VPN
  • Knowledge of MPLS signalling protocols, namely RSVP
  • Ability to produce excellent technical support and design documentation
  • Manage and engage with third party suppliers or maintainers as required
  • Able to negotiate and manage incidents whilst under pressure, being confident in own ability to make decisions
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Good problem solving skills and capable of self-driven learning
  • Own transport with full driving license

Skills (Optional)

  • Knowledge of Optical Networking (Layer 1)
  • Knowledge of Ansible and/or Python
  • Knowledge of Fortigate Firewalls


  • Development and maintenance of the Core Network
  • Resolving support escalations from 1st and 2nd line teams
  • Out of hours working will be required
  • Attending PoP's to maintain up to date network documentation

but operating UK wide. The core products are fibre connectivity, enterprise voice solutions and cloud hosting; all based around their own brand Fluency' network. The network stretches the length and breadth of the UK with presence in major UK datacentres and telephone exchanges.

The Edinburgh NOC facility is the main engineering hub for the Fluency network where all the products, services and the underlying systems and infrastructure are designed and developed. The company has a strong engineering focus, with all systems and services driven from its in-house developed management platform.
