Technical Lead Software Engineer - Java eCommerce, London to £95K + bonus, bens (Permanent)

Java Spring Boot microservices Java8 CI/CD E-commerce. Leading eCommerce Solutions Provider looking for experienced Java, eCommerce, API, Integration Solutions Consultant

The Role:

  • Act as the primary technical point of contact, taking personal responsibility for project success.
  • Work with other lead engineers to define the technical direction of projects, arbitrating major technical decisions often involving and influencing clients
  • Have technical issues escalate to you because team members genuinely want and respect your opinion - not because it's their job to ask for it.
  • Lead and mentor highly talented and motivated software engineers to become even better.
  • Think long term. Prioritize. Write Code. Review code. Stabilize. Deploy. Streamline. Optimize.
  • Ensure projects are realistic, interesting and fun - for everyone involved.
  • As a technically minded engineer you will be able to bring a broad range of capabilities across the web development landscape such as J2EE, Unit Testing frameworks such as JUnit,Spock, Mockito etc, Frameworks such as Spring, Cloud Infrastructure and Technologies.
  • Ideally you will be able to demonstrate top of industry technical knowledge in 1 class of frameworks or products, with familiarity in comparative strengths/weaknesses of technologies in the class (for example, ORM, MVC, CMS, selective search products)
  • Ideally you will be able to Implement project infrastructure setup strategies (SCM strategy, CI/CD, package archiving, automated deployment, aware of Infrastructure automation tools like Chef, ansible etc and Cloud based software deployment patterns).
  • Contribute to and do gardening of practice spaces with "how-to" recipes
  • Participate in capacity planning and scalability testing exercises
  • Working with on-site clients and distributed teams on greenfield projects, product integration and stabilization projects.
  • Ability to act with confidence when working with clients on and off site

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years' experience making significant contributions developing software in a highly challenging technical enterprise environment
  • Expert in Java coupled with a toolbox of other languages (eg Python, Javascript, Scala, Groovy, C#, or Ruby)
  • Experience in building and designing large software engineering efforts
  • Experience in or enthusiasm for providing expertise on optimization, networks, database architecture, performance testing or application frameworks
  • Familiarity with Scrum or Extreme Programming (XP) project methodologies to manage successful projects
  • Working knowledge of Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Deployment (CD) principles and tools such as Jenkins, TeamCity and Bamboo
  • Working knowledge or familiarity with log analysis (splunk, kibana etc) and monitoring (eg New Relic, Dynatrace etc)
  • Ability to communicate effectively across a range of industries with diverse technologies
  • A track record of mentoring software engineers; A genuine interest in helping other people grow

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in working as a professional consultant. Bonus points if you've been the primary point of contact with clients.
  • Experience with one of the leading E-commerce solutions such as SAP Commerce, Oracle Commerce, CommerceTools, Salesforce Commerce Cloud etc or content management solutions such as Adobe Experience Manager or any headless CMS products
  • Experience or familiarity with enterprise integration patterns and tools (eg MuleSoft, Dell Boomi, Spring Integration etc) is an added bonus.
  • Experience or familiarity with API Management using API Gateways (eg Apigee, IBM API Connect/Manager)
  • Experience or familiarity with Cloud Native software development (eg serverless programming, cloud deployment patterns, cloud based automation etc) is an added bonus
  • Experience or familiarity with Micro service architecture (eg spring boot, Knative, Istio etc)
  • Familiarity with infrastructure configuration and automation tools such as Chef, Vagrant, Ansible, Puppet, Salt, Terraform etc
  • Experience in collaborating with remote/offshore development teams
