Category Partner (Contract)

Location: Cambridgeshire Country: UK

Category Partner - Leadership Development Content required by Whitehall Resources for an initial 6 month contract based in Cambridgeshire

The Category Partner will be accountable for the development of the long-term strategic plan for the global Leader & Manager Development category spend area within the business. This role will oversee the implementation of a category plan and sourcing strategy that will deliver savings, consolidate suppliers, and support the centralisation of leader and management development content across the business.

The role will work within the Learning Content Simplification Workstream, reporting to the Workstream Lead.

Role and responsibilities:

- Conduct in-depth category analysis, supplier rationalisation, and understand global L&ED objectives and strategy
- Develop a thorough strategic plan to drive value for the leadership development category based on understanding of business needs, the supply market, spend baseline and benchmarking.
- Establish category sourcing strategies, negotiate with suppliers and execute contracts
- Negotiation and implementation of supplier agreements/contacts by working with cross-functional stakeholders and suppliers to reach agreement on contract terms and conditions
- Ensure supply, responsible sourcing, forecasting and savings tracking
- Manage contract activity and supplier performance issues for the leader and manager development category
- Identify necessary activities and resources needed to achieve implementation of chosen sourcing strategies
- Strategic relationship management (customer and supplier) - to ensure that Category Strategies are highly aligned to current and future Business need and that the supply base is capable of supporting these strategies.
- Oversee implementation of category plan - Ensure that the underpinning process improvement and procurement activities deliver the expected business value in accordance with the strategic plans.
- Identifies any quick win opportunities, and works with the Content Simplification Project Manager to determine what plans would look like to achieve the rationalisation
- Collaborates with the Learning Technology Workstream to understand potential changes in the way that content will be delivered, and how this may impact on content simplification opportunities

Essential skills and experience required:

- Business degree
- Contract negotiation experience required
- Supplier management and engagement experience required
- Excellent business engagement and acumen, with sensitivity to political/economic environment
- Practiced analytical skills including ability to distill, synthesize and draw conclusions on large amounts of data
- Strong detail orientation
- Proven track record for cultivating strong relationships with supplier stakeholders that have resulted in high customer satisfaction
- Experience of working within Matrix project teams, including virtual working with teams across multiple regions


- Experience of working in a complex global organisation
