DBA Developer

Purpose of job

  • Engineering of system database administration-related solutions for various firm wide projects and operational needs. Including the implementation of the firm's high availability requirements using Always On Availability Groups.
  • Database maintenance of the Practice Management System [PMS] and other database related systems to industry standards.
  • To gain an advanced knowledge of the firms SQL based PMS and to work with applicable departments to support and enhance this.
  • Perform daily system monitoring and administration on all database systems, verifying the integrity and availability of all related hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups, maintenance plans etc.
  • Provide Tier III support per request from various sources. Investigate and troubleshoot related issues.
  • Make recommendations for future database system upgrades, architectural designs and implement where applicable, and w ork with the Development team to commission and install new database applications/enhancements.
  • Be directly involved in the development and customization of existing applications to the business requirement, and proactively develop, improve the use, configuration and development of business reports ensuring that the benefits of these are maximised.

Accountabilities (including but not limited to)

  • Ensure that the Company database architecture is optimised and implement administration as and when required.
  • Ensure that the firm's databases and access to the data and them are highly available.
  • Experience creating, maintaining and optimising stored procedures, database and ETL processes (SSIS).
  • Be responsible for technical Data Protection principles and managing the access to and destruction of data accordingly.
  • Ensuring that data archiving, anonymisation and other routines are designed, built and monitored.
  • Managing secure access to the SQL estate, and ensuring permissions are correctly assigned.
  • Setting up monitoring mechanisms for core processes to ensure proactive responses.
  • Responsibility for data migration, insertion and extraction as required.
  • Capacity planning for future growth.
  • Managing SQL upgrades and patches, with minimal downtime.
  • Ensure you are aware of and comply with all information security policies of the organisation relevant to your business role;
  • Report any actual or potential security breaches; and c ontribute to risk assessment where required. 
  • All employees have the authority to act to prevent an information security incident from occurring or escalating, where possible.


  • Requires a minimum of HND or Foundation Degree in Computer Science or has the equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience of systems and database administration.
  • Detailed knowledge of SQL Server Always On Availability Groups and other replication technologies.
  • Experience of using Redgate tools in particular the Toolbelt applications, Monitor, Clone and Mask.
  • Proven experience in designing, structuring, Implementing and maintaining RDBMS.
  • Minimum 5 years writing advanced queries, stored procedures and UDF's.
  • Advanced SSRS, SSIS knowledge.
  • Data visualisation and creation of dashboards and dynamic charts with data from SQL databases using Excel, SSRS and other BI tools (eg PowerBI etc.) would be advantageous.
  • Some experience of .net technologies including, VB.NET and aspx preferred.
