Please note this UI/UX designer position is being offered as a 6-month pro rata contract (maternity cover).

This client is a world-class visitor attraction and a global leader in science. They host a rich program of events running throughout the year which are designed to reach the widest possible audience, inspiring and engaging them with vital scientific work.

The Digital Experience team sits within the Marketing and Commercial Enterprise directorate - responsible for communicating and promoting their brand and message to the public, increasing visitor numbers, delivering a public program of festivals and events and bringing in revenue through commercial partnerships and licensing.

They are looking for a UI/UX designer who is passionate about developing inspiring, user-centred products that will delight users and meet business goals. You will have a flair for creativity and a great attention to detail. You will be responsible for implementing major improvements to their website and other digital products. You will work closely with the Product Manager, internal team and external agencies to shape the creative direction and deliver high-quality designs through the end-to-end development process. As such, you will be a creative problem solver, who analyses users' problems and provides the best design solutions to overcome them.


  • Develop improved designs for digital products (with main focus on the .org website) based on user feedback, analytics and proposed information architecture and navigation changes, staying true to the existing brand and maintaining a strong visual aesthetic. Starting with low-fidelity sketches and wireframes and moving on to hi-fidelity interaction models and prototypes, and mock-ups that optimise how our users interact with our digital products.
  • Understand the needs of our users and how to design products and services that meet them, using analytics and user research to shape designs and championing a user-focused approach to product and service development
  • Test and validate design concepts with stakeholders and users, experimenting with A/B testing and optimisation tools to test out minor iterations on real-
  • Communicate design principles and direction to our development agency and stakeholders, working side-by-side with developers to deliver results that are faithful to your original concepts
  • Develop a set of design patterns and assets based on the brand that can be wrapped up into a digital design toolkit and rolled out across our suite of digital products
  • Work with the Product Manager to prioritise features and improvements that will deliver the most value to their users and that best map to the companies strategic objectives
  • Understand the constraints of our current development environment and CMS, and work with our external developers to come up with creative solutions to problems
