TUI Airways are looking for our next Aviation Safety Manager. With responsibility for the airline and Approved Training Organisation (ATO), this is a significant management role that holds the primary responsibility for enabling the airline to identify, understand and address all aviation safety risks associated with commercial airline operations.

This role will support the entire airline management team to be alert to and understand sources of risk, both internal and external, and understand risk relationships across the major operational departments of the airline, ensuring that a cohesive, coherent and efficient approach to managing safety is employed. As this role is 'the face of safety' in the airline, it requires an individual who can bring both technical expertise and leadership capability to all situations. The role is also responsible for the leadership, management and direction of the Emergency Response Planning function within the airline.

This role requires strong business English (written & spoken) and will involve some travel across Europe.

How you will make an impact as Aviation Safety Manager
There are many ways for you to get involved:

  • You'll be a leader who provides an accessible and positive central point of contact, who can marshal understanding and action and who has a high degree of motivation to drive forward safety performance improvements
  • You will need to ensure that the relevant UK and international safety regulations that are in force for the protection of our external customers are well understood, communicated and implemented within the airline operation
  • Using your aviation safety knowledge and expertise, you'll build and maintain excellent working relationships with all colleagues, including crew, as internal customers

  • Lead the airline's safety team to work in partnership with directors, managers and employees, including air crew members, engineers and ground personnel, to develop and maintain a proactive safety culture throughout the airline
  • Ensure the safety team is central to the provision of information to all customer facing colleagues, including flight crew members, providing insights into customer concerns, perceptions and queries and looking for ways to innovate to enhance our customers' service and safety experience.
  • Be recognised as an outstanding communicator who prepares and delivers all communication materials to a very high standard and adapts to accommodate individual differences
  • Take full accountability for and lead the development of safety performance measures and improvement initiatives, oversee the management and development of the airline safety occurrence database and the provision and publication of safety management information
  • Ensure the safety department carries out self-audit to help maintain the constant accuracy and efficacy of safety compliance procedures
  • Where safety occurrences are significant or serious, you will ensure a clear process exists and is consistently applied to enable prompt follow up investigation so that effective lessons learned are acted upon in a timely fashion
