Key Responsibilities of an IT Senior Project Manager role:

The role of an IT Senior Project Manager is responsible for leading Programmes and Projects aligned to major business initiatives. Responsible for prioritising, planning and managing the interdependencies of Programmes and Projects.

  • Leads projects & programmes through the appropriate project life cycle.
  • Manages Programme and Project teams to ensure effective delivery, setting clear personal objectives and deliverables for each team member.
  • Works with individual IT teams to ensure they input at an appropriate time to the project, and to ensure that all IT standards are maintained.
  • Creates and manages plans on behalf of IT, the project sponsor, and customer. Produces all appropriate project documentation and budget information to the agreed standard Delivers effective communication to stakeholders, project, and steering teams associated with the project.
  • Leads project governance sessions for allocated Programmes and Projects. Supports the demand and capacity management life cycle ensuring all enhancements and projects including pipeline demand are prioritised based on business benefit & allocated resources on the resource schedule.
  • Inputs to Project Management and Office strategy aligning to overall IT strategy.
  • Provides coaching and mentoring support to team members and other IT staff involved in project work.

Key Skills of the role:

  • A good level of experience in a Programme Management/Senior Project Manager Role
  • Experience in the following, supported by a professional qualification eg MSP, Prince2, APM, PMBOK etc.
  • Risk management
  • Stakeholder Management Demand Management
  • Experienced at delivering IT solutions in support of major business change initiatives across a range of businesses and functional disciplines
  • Programme/Project Experience - Programmes/Projects delivered will have contained a selection of IT disciplines including systems, development and infrastructure and have been focused on key business change.
  • Strong programme management skills Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to build strong relationships with internal and external parties
  • Strong business acumen and understanding
  • Expert at analysing complex situations and proposing a variety of alternative courses of action
  • Expert at making recommendations involving many competing factors and balancing opportunity and risk
  • Skilled in the structured use of problem solving and analytical tools
  • Ability to facilitate, lead and motivate teams
  • Ability to negotiate and prioritise
  • Ability to manage change and understand the impact it has on people, process and technology
  • Experience of line management

Salary & Benefits:
