Dynamics AX Solution Architect

The AX Solution Architect is responsible for designing business focused solutions using a holistic approach. Understanding all systems involved and the impact proposed solutions will have on those systems. The role will be involved in the complete application life cycle and will ensure best practice is adopted, providing technical leadership in projects, working closely with the project manager to guide the technical resources to achieve the development and delivery of the technical solution. Ideal candidate will communicate effectively; therefore will be equally comfortable talking with business owners as with programmers and infrastructure resources.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify and recommend customisations and enhancements
  • Provides gap-analyses, functional specifications for AX enhancements and integrations to other business applications
  • Provide expert application configuration and design by optimising features, user experience, data integrity, and system performance
  • Drive the effective transition of requirements to delivery, ensuring a clear and complete understanding of the requirements thereby ensuring successful delivery
  • Preparation of implementation documentation to ensure the effective support of the application
  • Collaborate, manage and lead meetings with Functional/Business Leads and Technical Leads/Developers to ensure each phase of an implementation/development is executed with the solutions provided or recommended in a timely manner
  • Communicate the AX core solution as and when required
  • Engage with project teams to gather best practices and guidance in an effort to integrate and improve user experience
  • Proactively extends knowledge of the application
  • Attends and participates in meetings that pertain to assigned responsibilities


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field

Work Experience:

  • 3+ years' experience of Microsoft Dynamics AX2012/AX7, both functionally and technically/architecturally
  • 5+ years' experience in facilitation, analysis and prototyping
  • 5+ years' understanding of and primary responsibility for solutions within Logistics and Retail
  • 5+ years' experience with multi-phase, multi-country, enterprise-wide AX implementations
  • 8+ years' solid experience working within an IT applications role
  • Solid understanding of interoperability issues and the strengths and weaknesses of platforms and products

Job Skills:

  • Strong and proven experience of implementing AX
  • Experience of working within a complex multi-regional architecture
  • Confident and possesses effective communication skills
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Thinks clearly and calmly under pressure
  • Investigates problems to establish real or hidden causes
  • Solves complex problems with creative solutions
  • Places emphasis on user satisfaction
  • Ability to prioritise and successfully manage multiple projects/deadlines simultaneously
  • Must have the ability to work independently as well as within a team environment

Geographic Responsibility: Global, mainly UK and USA based system users.
Travel %: Up to 25% - Must be flexible
