Fine Arts Equipment and Studio Safety Technician #01135A (Full Time)

Location: Chesapeake, VA Country: United States of America

Fine Arts Equipment and Studio Safety Technician (01135A) Responsible for ensuring proper maintenance and repair of Art Department equipment to include ensuring the safe use of equipment and materials by students and faculty.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, and basic shop safety requirements. Broad knowledge of environmental health and safety procedures. Basic knowledge of and skill with hand tools, power tools, and equipment associated with maintenance or fabrication trades. Demonstrated ability to work in various climatic conditions and around materials typically used in the making of art (eg, clay, ceramics dust, fibers, woodshop areas, printmaking, painting, sculpture, drawing mediums, metal shop etc.). Demonstrated ability to follow directions as well as work independently or as part of a team. Demonstrated ability to solve problems, ask questions, and think through solutions related to equipment maintenance and repair. Demonstrated ability to interpret, follow and explain safety rules, operating instructions, and procedural manuals to ensure compliance with the standards and best practices outlined by NASAD, (National Association of Schools of Art and Design) the national accreditation agency for college level art programs. Demonstrated ability to lift (up to 50 pounds); carry, push, or pull a variety of tools, equipment, and materials; reach, stoop, kneel, climb, and crouch to gain access to spaces; work both indoors and outdoors; work with hand tools and power tools associated with the building trades; and be able to stand for long periods of time. The ability to maintain good working and professional relationships with ODU faculty, staff, students in a BA, BFA Studio Art program and a demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with people from diverse backgrounds.
