As a Methods Technician,
you will have the following responsibilities in Methods, Tooling, and Engineering
Change Management & Non-Conformance:

Methods

-
Provide technical support when issues arise on the production floor by performing root cause analysis and defining the solution and an implementation plan in collaboration with production, engineering, planning & quality assurance functions.

-
Liaison between the production facility in Pittsburg, CA, USA and the technical services team in Plattsburgh, NY, USA.

-
Read and interpret 2D drawings.

-
Manipulate 3D models & taking measurements in CATIA V5.

-
Perform GD&T analysis to identify if design tolerances can be achieved by manufacturing.

-
Create and modify assembly instructions for production using Siemens Teamcenter Visualization Professional.

-
Create Manufacturing Bill of Materials (MBOM) from Engineering Bill of Materials (EBOM) in SAP.

-
Review and disposition production issues (PSPs), with production engineering and quality assurance, as either a workmanship, quality or a technical/design issue (TI)

-
Ensure designs allow production to achieve target standard hours and are aligned with Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFM/A) principles.

-
Perform time & motion studies to establish standard times.

-
Develop a line balance to define the resource allocation & the sequence in which to build the rail cars.

-
Develop and modify production line implementation layouts using AutoCAD.

-
Procure tools and other equipment required for production by performing market research and comparing multiple suppliers to meet safety, quality, productivity & cost targets.

-
Develop financial business cases for investments made (ie tools, tooling, equipment) and ensure that the investment is in the best interest of the organization.

-
Identify safety related concerns on the shop floor and immediately tackle or escalate them to address the problem.

-
Participate in design reviews, 3P & Kaizen workshops.

Tooling

-
Identify tooling needs for production and submit tool request with all the pertinent information (engineering drawings, tolerances, datum plan, business case etc.) to the tooling department.

-
Determine tool utilization and the right quantity required to sustain the fastest production rate.

-
Key member in the tooling design review process.

-
Design tooling using CATIA V5 and generate 2D drawings with detailed BOM.

-
Support the metrology team to validate tooling.

-
Read metrology reports and determine necessary actions to improve the tooling.

Engineering Change
Management & Non-Conformance

-
Follow the change management process using SAP, Team center & AVM (application used to issue modification notices).

-
Write modification instructions to make changes to cars already built or shipped to the client to incorporate new design changes.

-
Issue methods disposition (scrap, use as-is, repair or rework), by collaborating with all necessary functions, to address non-conformities identified on a Quality Notice (QN) in SAP.

-
Develop rework, repair and use as-is instructions for production to correct the non-conformance.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

- Associate degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Electrical field with 2+ years of experience in rolling stock manufacturing in a technical position.
- Experience in CATIA, or AutoCAD.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Electrical Engineering.
- Experience with SAP.
