Project Description:

Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI), Bechtel's government services business, is one of the top providers to departments and agencies of the U.S. and British governments. Its successes include many large, first-of-a-kind projects in government site management, environmental restoration, defense, space, energy, and national and homeland security. Bechtel currently manages the Mobile Launcher 2 project at Kennedy Space Center, FL. This project is the design and construction of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Mobile Launcher 2 (ML2) for the Space Launch System (SLS).

This position may be required to travel, work a schedule of rotating shifts including nights, weekends, or holidays. All employees are subject to and agree to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of continued employment for the duration of their assignment. The ability to obtain/maintain access to the facility is required. This position reports to the Project Field Engineer (PFE).

Role Overview:

ML2 is looking for a Construction Automation Engineer. This position is responsible to provide construction application support, software engineering, and business analysis. This role will also include devising innovative approaches/solutions to problems encountered and recommendations for process improvements.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • implementing the construction automation tools in accordance with the project automation plan.
  • coordinating with functional project automation support to ensure construction applications comply with BSAP standards
  • customizing applications (eg, PowerBI, SSRS, BookBuiler, etc) to support construction reporting requirements
  • preparing test plans, migration plans, job aids, and new release forms for new versions of construction automation tools before they are released for use
  • coordinating with IT for User account setup to support their construction role and automation tools necessary
  • application training to support construction personnel
  • construction automation Superuser during construction, commissioning, and turnover phases of the project
  • designing/developing workflows, forms, and templates for automation tools
  • providing user support including responding to queries and issues
  • monitoring contractor/supplier user compliance
  • managing output data and prepares construction report types with direction from PFE and Site Manager (SM)
  • inputting and maintain automation related information into project plans and procedures
  • collating and reviewing user feedback for use in improvements
  • developing relationships across integrated Team/Contractors/Third Parties
  • coordinating and managing the construction documentation automation tracker and producing status reports
  • producing construction automation dashboards specific to discipline and level of management
  • collating and issuing construction performance curves, metrics, and trackers for use by the project management team with leading and lagging information to show trends, recommend adjustments needed as coordinated with the PFE and SM

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must be physically capable to conduct field inspections and participate in project walk-downs which require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, maneuvering around very small and/or confined spaces. and lifting 60 lbs. without assistance.
  • Must be able to pass NASA screening requirements and be able to obtain and maintain unescorted access to Kennedy Space Center.
  • Related Bachelor's degree and 6 years of related experience in software engineering, construction, information management, and/or design engineering
  • In lieu of a degree, 12 years of related experience in software engineering, construction, information management, and/or design engineering

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Candidates should be self-starters, highly motivated, requiring little supervision, and able to work well in a team environment
  • Candidates should have experience customizing the Bechtel Standard Applications such as TeamWorks, SetRoute, WITS, BookBuilder, xFighters, Construction Unifier, eTrack, EQMS, SmartPlant design tools, Digital Supply Chain, Synchro 4D, and Navisworks to specific project requirements
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • A sound knowledge base of environmental, safety and health compliance standards required on government projects
  • Ability to provide clear and precise verbal and written communications with project teams to ensure automation tools “talk” across interfaces
  • Candidates should have experience developing and customizing SQL, SSRS, and PowerBI reports and dashboards to support specific project needs.
  • Strong ability to read, understand and interpret structural/mechanical/electrical construction drawings.
  • Strong understanding of change management and configuration control processes
  • Working knowledge of the Bechtel Standard Work Processes Procedures (SWPPs) and the related Bechtel Standard application Programs (BSAPs) utilized by Construction
