Data Analyst (Full Time)

Location: Richmond Virginia Country: United States of America

Kinsale is an Excess & Surplus lines insurer specializing in hard-to-place, small to medium sized commercial accounts.

Kinsale is eligible in all states and writes a variety of Property, Casualty and Specialty lines through thirteen underwriting divisions. Given the experience of our staff and our control over the underwriting and claims processes, Kinsale offers unmatched underwriting flexibility to brokers placing difficult E&S accounts. Kinsale will consider offering terms on a wide range of risks including accounts with new or high hazard operations and businesses that have a poor loss history or that are located in high risk venues.


Kinsale is looking for individuals who are passionate about technology and working innovative solutions that drive quality and efficiency. The Data Analyst role is for individuals who specialize in interpreting and collecting data, understand the data flow between systems, and identify patterns and trends. This role encompasses Back End IT support for business-critical initiatives.


  • Work with the management team and Product Owners to create a prioritized list of needs for each business segment.
  • Work with departmental managers to outline the specific data needs for each business method analysis project.
  • Use statistical methods to analyze data and generate useful business reports from single or multiple systems.
  • Automate existing reports, data calls, etc.
  • Create new reports, based on IT and other business requirements.
  • Troubleshoot the reporting database environment and reports.
  • Investigate and analyze root causes of technical issues/data-related questions.
  • Evaluate changes and updates to source production systems.
  • Train end users on reports, queries, and dashboards.


  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, technology, or related field preferred.
  • 5-10 years of experience work experience as a data analyst or in related field.
  • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, including query authoring, creating various objects, etc.
  • Ability to analyze existing tools and databases and provide software solution recommendations.
  • Experience in handling large data sets.
  • Ability to be a data analyst and Report Writer.
  • Experience with batch processing, command-line processing.
  • Ability to process and manage multiple priorities and initiatives.
  • Strong written and oral skills.
  • Experience with Agile practices.
  • Experience with Oracle 12c preferred.
  • Knowledge of Property & Casualty Insurance lines a plus, but not required.
  • Experience with report writing tools, like 4Sight or Cognos a plus.
  • Experience with Excel macro capabilities a plus.
