About the Opportunity

This position is in the Energy Sales group of Product Development & Energy Efficiency. This is a sales' role reporting to the Director of Energy Sales at the Akron General Office. The candidate selected for this position will have the ability to develop and implement an agent business model to sell energy and related products to residential, commercial and industrial customers in OH, PA, NJ, MD and other deregulated states. This employee will work hand-in-hand with the Director to create programs, develop relationships and evaluate strategies to meet and grow margin. The candidate for this job will be a team leader who has deep customer knowledge, market experience and the ability to manage channel sales. This candidate will also have prior sales experience in the energy or product markets, a deeper knowledge of energy markets, an ability to communicate this expertise to customers and the ability to close sales. This position will involve some travel and a flexible workday to accommodate meetings at various times and locations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist management in the development and execution of an agent energy business plan across all sales' channels
  • Develop strategies to target customers, sell energy and grow customer base, including cold calling, technological fulfillment, electronic communications and in-person sales methods
  • Conduct research and analyze data to develop sales proposals for various specific channels
  • Develop and maintain a book of business that meets or exceeds energy sales and margin goals
  • Develop the requirements for and manage an out-sourced sales' team
  • Research and understand competitor strengths and weakness to enhance sales
  • Manage contract process between customer and supplier and between supplier and FE Energy Sales
  • Provide high level customer service, continuous support and proactive involvement with leadership in reporting business unit activities
  • Consistently anticipate and deliver against action plans
  • Develop effective working relationships with fellow employees at all levels and assist when workload requires additional resources
  • Offer ideas and suggestions to improve work processes and projects with limited resources
  • Fully learn and understand utility deregulation rules across multiple states
  • Apply learned sales techniques and product knowledge to maintain and grow book of business
  • Establish closer relationship with suppliers in order to develop mutually beneficial resutls for all parties involved in the sale
  • Demonstrate competency, proficiency and independence as a sales' leader who can manage field sales representatives
  • Fully understand energymarkets and products and relate this knowledge to increasingly sophisticated customer base
  • Apply best practices and learned sales techniques to customer prospects and customer base
  • Develop and recommend sales programs and solutions that have a direct and positive effect on sales
  • Educate others on technical subject matters and make contributions to improve programs
  • Fully develop supplier relationships such that multiple suppliers big on FE Energy Sales proposal


  • BA/BS in business, marketing or related sales field required with m inimum 10 years relevant work experience required. In lieu of degree, minimum 13 years relevant work experience required. Relevant work experience will include demonstratable success in direclty selling products to residential or business channels .
  • Prior experience in developing, executing and managing contracted sales force a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with customers, suppliers, supervisors, peers and employees and other partners involved in the sales process
  • Advanced data analytic skills - utilizing a variety of tools (including Microsoft Office products and in-house CRM systems) and demonstrating analytical skills with consistent attention to detail
  • Ability to rapidly assess and make recommendations to customers using analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrable ability to independently target, analyze, price and close sales with customers in various channels, particularly small to medium sized businesses
  • Questioning attitude and willingness to make recommendations when process and system improvements are needed
  • Willingness to take on difficult challenges given various market conditions
  • Sound knowledge of electricity or energy markets
  • Positive attitude and proactive behavior
  • Ability to deliver accurate work in a timely manner
  • Ability to initiate and close sales
  • Experience handling customer concerns and resolving problems in an independent manner
  • Willingness to travel, up to 20% of time required
