This position reports to the Director, Diversity & Inclusion and is located at the Akron - General Office.

As the Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) Consultant, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, championing and measuring companywide D&I initiatives, ensuring alignment with the organizational strategy and results evidenced by measurable outcomes. This position will work closely with key Diversity & Inclusion stakeholders, including the Executive Diversity & Inclusion Council, HR Leadership, Local HR, HR Business Partners, Corporate Recruiting, D&I Working group and business leaders to ensure initiatives, resources, training and tools are effectively leveraged to drive business results and to foster an inclusive and diverse work culture.

This role will also partner with the Community Involvement, Supply Chain, External Affairs, and Workforce Development departments and involve FirstEnergy employees, leaders and EBRGs in external outreach efforts.

This position will primarily focus on organization and business unit consulting, D&I training strategy and delivery, management of our Employee Business Resource Groups, policy review and diversity outreach, including participation in our recruiting ambassador program with targeted colleges and universities, HBCUs and professional organizations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Serving as a change agent to drive D&I initiatives at a strategic level; providing expert advice, coaching, support, education and consultancy to leaders and key stakeholders enabling them to implement key D&I strategies
  • Partnering with HR Business Partners, Recruiting, Learning & Development and Organizational Effectiveness teams to drive the implementation of the D&I strategy and link it with ongoing business and talent processes and initiatives
  • Developing educational curriculum, strategies, and tools for various audiences (employees, leaders, HR, etc.) to advance the D&I efforts in alignment with our strategy; accomplished through collaboration and partnership with consultants and internal experts, as necessary
  • Providing oversight, thought leadership and coaching to Employee Business Resources Group (EBRG) sponsors and assisting new groups with implementation. Providing guidance, tools, resources and metrics to evolve EBRGs to business focused groups that positively impact the business through effective leadership, engagement, programming and management
  • Reviewing and integrating D&I practices into all existing HR and talent management policies and practices including recruiting, hiring, training development, and leadership succession planning strategies
  • Benchmarking best practices regularly and gathering and analyzing organizational metrics to identify opportunities for strengthening D&I across the enterprise and foster cultural change. Recognizing and responding to diversity needs and issues with appropriate solutions and programs that address areas of opportunity and support critical business priorities
  • Building external relationships with key community outreach organizations and participating in D&I events to optimize our ability to attract and retain diverse talent
  • Partnering with Corporate Communications in diversity and inclusion communication efforts to regularly create awareness of internal and external initiatives, events and progress.


  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business or related discipline with minimum 12 years relevant work experience required. In lieu of Bachelor's degree (preferred), minimum 14 years relevant work experience required. Relevant experience includes leading belonging, inclusion, equity and diversity initiatives in a corporate environment
  • Certifications related to Diversity & Inclusion preferred
  • Subject matter expertise and knowledge of diversity and inclusion processes, practices, resources and networks
  • Viewed as a technical expert in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Superior interpersonal, organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills
  • Superior leadership and team building skills; ability to foster innovative change and process improvement and accountability for delivering results
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships; experience working with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) preferred
  • Ability to work and interact with all levels of employees
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
