Tenneco completed the acquisition of Federal-Mogul, a leading global supplier to original equipment manufacturers and the aftermarket. The DRiV division of Tenneco combined the strengths of Tenneco, Federal-Mogul Motorparts and Öhlins Racing to become one of the largest multi-line, multi-brand aftermarket suppliers and one of the largest global original equipment (OE) ride performance and braking suppliers to the aftermarket, light vehicle and commercial vehicle customers. DRiV contributes ~$6B annually to Tenneco's global revenue.

We are looking for an EHS Coordinator who will be responsible for providing environmental, health, and safety leadership to the Boaz, Alabama manufacturing site. This person will be responsible for supporting EHS objectives and targets; internal reporting of EHS performance; communication of national, area, and local regulatory requirements. In addition, also responsible for: appropriate site ISO/OHSAS certifications, assuring accurate and complete EHS reporting of metrics, managing interfaces with the public and governmental authorities with adverse findings and enforcement actions, site security, and creating a strong EHS culture that engages employees throughout the site in EHS teams and processes.

  • Lead Safety Team as they develop unit safety programs.
  • Promote safety and health throughout the plant, this includes coaching individual members or Safety Representatives.
  • Assist with inspections and evaluations of new and old equipment to ensure the equipment is properly guarded.
  • Facilitate work area and inspections/evaluations to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Develops Job Safety Analyses (JSA) - PMR are scheduled to replace JSA as updates are necessary.
  • Handles disposition/reclamation of hazardous, non-hazardous, and industrial process waste streams and wastewater discharge sources. This includes evaluating waste streams, reconciling manifests, reconciling invoices, organizing lab packs, and auditing satellite waste stations. Maintains databases and prepares government reports (Tier 2, Form R, waste shipments, etc).
  • Ensure the completion of industrial hygiene surveys to minimize/eliminate hazardous air pollutants or noise. Communicate results of industrial hygiene surveys as required by OSHA.
  • Investigate employee complaints or concerns about their work areas.
  • Coordinate medical examinations, audiometric testing, and respiratory testing, as required.
  • Create/implement procedures to meet new Federal and state regulation and OSHA, ANSI and ISO standards. Considers Global EHS requirements when establishing and writing new policies, procedures, work instructions, etc.
  • Develop annual EHS training plan and methods that coordinates the OSHA, ISO and other Global EHS training requirements. Involved with implementing, maintaining, and upgrading EHS training programs.
  • Support the HAZCOM Program by evaluating, classifying and approving new chemical requests, evaluating use of current chemicals and offering alternatives, and monitoring the effectiveness of the current SDS program. Maintain SDS library.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with waste disposal activities through the proper management of hazardous, non-hazardous, and special wastes generated at the plant.
  • Responsible for maintaining of the Aspects and Impacts list in accordance to established plant Procedure.
  • Routinely evaluates new equipment and existing workstations for safety concerns and for ergonomic fit.
  • Facilitate EHS event investigations to identify and eliminate root causes and ensure completion of corrective actions so these incidents do not repeat.
  • Handles the daily questions that are asked in regard to safely working in the plant.
  • Develop and maintain site EHS Compliance Calendar that includes all OSHA, ISO and Global EHS requirements.
  • Encourage pollution prevention and finds alternatives to hazardous materials.
Required Experience

Education: Bachelor's degree in Safety or Environment or related field or equivalent EHS experience preferred, Associates degree in Safety or Environment or related field required.

Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum two (2) years' of EHS experience in manufacturing.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent leadership skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • EHS Certificate, Hazwoper, OSHA 30 hour Certified preferred.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and the fundamentals of safety and industrial hygiene. Has a basic understanding of waste regulations, safety, and industrial hygiene practices. This can be through formal college education or extensive on-the-job training.
  • Ability to read and apply legal and other requirements, such as OSHA, EPA, & DOT regulations, ANSI Standards, ISO 14001 Standard, and DRiV policies, procedures, work instructions, guidance, etc., as may be applicable to the plant.
  • Ability to read and interpret Safety Data Sheets (SDSs). Technical knowledge regarding organic chemistry would be helpful.
